10 Ways Online Gaming Will Change The Future

March 24, 2008 6:00 pm

It was only a matter of time. Humans got fed up with this world, and so we invented a new one. I suspect some theologian will come forward in the future to suggest that, in fact, our world was created in the same way. The gods got sick of their boring spiritual realm and made a more exciting, physical one to replace it.‘ says David Wong on ‘A World Of Warcraft World‘. (Don’t get instantly fed up, it’s a humour site after all! ;))

Where Mr. Wong takes World of Warcraft as an example for the future of online gaming and virtual world, a lot of his funny statements are dead on target and are proven true also when you adjust them to be a bit more SLish. We would get this:

  1. Everyone will look like a fashion model.
  2. All will play in the same virtual world.
  3. Someone will go to jail for stealing and selling a SexGen bed.
  4. You’ll meet someone who plays a MMORPG for a living.
  5. They’ll take the “G” out of “MMORPG” and call it a virtual world.
  6. You will find yourself momentarily forgetting whether you’re in the real or virtual world.
  7. You’ll meet a couple who has been married for years and have never seen each other’s real-life faces.
  8. There will be a branch of government to rule the virtual world.
  9. There will be a whole class of wealthy people without a dime to their name.
  10. The rise of the metaverse will go almost completely unopposed.

For his arguments to these statements, go and read Mr. Wong’s blogpost, have a chuckle and give his ideas a few thoughts. Please! ;)

Damn Vint, why did you publish this?

While reading specially the last couple of points, SheWhoPullstheStrings was holding her hand on the connector of the ADSL line, ready to pull it out. Mumbling something like : “I do NOT want to live that way…”

If something should happen to me, I know who I will hold responsible for it !!!

Because the guy actually _does_ make a point here. :d

(Offer to share your clothing inventory with SheWhoPullsTheStrings and I’m sure she will take that as compensation and let you live your life™. ;))
