An AJAX based SL Client is born! He listens to the name ‘AjaxLife’ and the proud mommy is Katharine Berry. Although AjaxLife is still in todler fase - which means it still needs to grow, develop and evolve ;) - we can now take our first steps on the grid through our browsers.
AjaxLife works on the main grid with the following features:
- Basic map
- Teleports
- Accepting/declining teleport offers
- Local chat, instant messages (partially - you can’t start them except with online friends)
- Inventory received notifications
- Friend on/offline notifications
- Balance change notifications, etc.
It also correctly logs you in and out, and notifies you if you were disconnected for any reason.
If now only I could log in… . I think it’s suffering from the load of interested avatars/people. :(

Hmm…her website isn’t working *pouts*
Tobie, I just got in and it’s working. Which means Chloe could chat with you and her friends on SL again?!
Wow … works like a charm! pity I showed up in world all Ruth-ed :-)
October - her server was down for a bit. Now it’s back up.
As all things made by Kath, you can expect LOTS of improvement. I’m glad to see this is making the blogs of the MG :D
If you will browse her blog a bit, there are several other things she’s worked on: TSL Emporium, a webstore; TSL Profiles in response to LL removal of ratings system, and through which you can speak to people who are in-world from a web browser (works only to chat with people who got registered in the TG); a sim statistics project of the whole TG, and, just for fun, a 3D TG map in sculpties with her stats. :D
Now I sound like I’m trying to sell her, but the truth is that she never works for money, and I’m really glad to see she’s getting some credits. :D
Yup! I just got it working, thanks guys!
And I also let Chloe know about it, of course =)
Mariel, maybe Smiley Barry was right and we really ought to let you teens run our grid. *grins*
Hey Vint! I tried it earlier and it is awesome! Can’t wait for her next upgrade. This girl is going places fast. Take care. {:o)
Vint - I’d reconsider that if I were you.
*Ish totally unproductive in SL and thus would do nothing but host snapshot and machinima parties, whatever they are, all over the Grid. o.O*
Tinsel - you might want to check out the things she’s done -before- :D
I guess that, if some of you, MGers, ask for it, she can share the communication system between SL and TSL Profiles ^^, or perhaps her sim statistics thingy for those who’d find it useful. I think she did that already with someone who read about it in the SL educators list.
AjaxLife: Browser-Based Second Life Viewer?…
I couldn’t get this to work yesterday and I still can’t today, but one of the Electric Sheep got it working and it sounds fascinating. Someone (said to be a teen) has created an Ajax-based client for the virtual world of Second Life. Is thi…
I hope the site gets online soon. This is great news. I’ve been talking with a friend on how nice it was to have a client to access SL on the go. Best luck in the project and thank you.
[…] Berry, who developed an Ajax based SL viewer so you can use your web browser to access SL (thanks Vint and NWN for the tip). Sorry bloggers, y’all can’t qualify for this unless you’re […]
[…] It seems that SLIMChat is currently not longer supported. The website says: Due to the unexpected need for hospitalization, Rin Redgrave will not be able to log on to Second Life for a little while, we will try to keep you updated. -Rin’s Family. If you haven’t done so already, do check out AjaxLife. […]
