BlogHer SL ‘07: Combining blogging and Second Life

The Second Life BlogHer conference started out in ‘Second Life Style’: everything went slick, except for leading lady Queen Tureaud having a bit of a shoe problem. Well, this is Second Life after all, and worse things then ’shoe up ass’ can happen.

Things got even more fun when Myg forced us to IMing all our fellow participants and reading all their profiles - for the ‘get to know your fellow avatar game’ - to fill up a notecard with ten avatar names. I admit. I cheated. But just a little bit. For the ‘name an avatar with over 5k inventory’, I listed Myg. Without asking her first. Just a wild guess. *grins* The question I got asked most was if I’m a furry. Whereupon I had to answer negative. Actuelly, there were no furries present. Well, I did add they could list me as a Neko. Ow, did I mention I won? =)
Combining Blogging and Second Life
And then, the ‘Combining blogging and Second Life’ panel. What?! That early?!! *Panics* Yes. AM and PM are difficult when it involves 00’s and 12’s. Will all time zones use the 24 hours in a day time format starting today, please? SLCN.TV recorded the whole session so if you missed it, you can watch the re-runs. ;) And it seems Grace McDunnough can do more then just play great music, as she as some excellent notes from the session over at Phasing Grace.
I’m sorry for the swinging my arms/swimming during the whole footage, but again - this is Second Life after all. Killing the AO, detaching my tail and ’stop all animations’ did not work. And with ‘no scripts’ enabled I could not use a scripted object to control my movements. Well, I was never good at sitting still anyway. ;)

I had a lot of positive comments in IM and met some more interesting avatars. Yet none of them could beat the ‘neat’ factor of this blogpost over at Toddler Planet:
This is amazing. Although in reality, I am at home, in bed, in pain (and in my pajamas), I am still able to attend the BlogHer Conference virtually using this program called Second Life. They’re streaming audio this morning while the attendees sit in chairs. Soon we will get up and walk around and “talk” to each other, making connections and renewing friendships that we’ve made through blogging. …
If you see this lady on the grid - her SL name is WhyMommy Babii - don’t hesitate to talk to her! And, see! Second Life isn’t there just for SLex and gambling.

I hafta wonder what would have happened if I had not quizzed Vint this morning on my puzzlement with the time of the event as well….
At least Vint doesn’t have to stay up all night. :)
Well, I started to realise when noticing there was a huuuuge gap between Myg’s ‘get to meet your fellow avatar’ and the panel I was one. I only started to panic when you mentioned this too. =d
Vint: blame it all on me, I remember I did try to help with the time calculations originally, so most probably was the contributor, if not the original cause of the confusion. Pfff. Arithmetics were never ever my strongest point :-)))
Why don’t we all just tell the times in UTC from now on, and be done with it ? :) It does sound like an interesting experiment for a blogger group - to try to influence the world to abandon the local times ? :-)
