Can we do that later, please?

January 5, 2008 11:53 pm

Ah, dear Dandellion, I was asked to always ask - or demand - politely, you forgot to insert the ‘please’. Besides that, it’s a kick-ass Jira proposal ‘Inbox for notices, offers and alike’ that is also known as Jira Issue #VWR-4117. So, let’s all scream: ‘Vote 4117!’ ;)

*shouts* What do we want? *end shout*

At the moment all the offers, group notices, money transactions and what not that came while being off-line come after logging-in and insist to be handled immediately. Even worse, if one crash before handling them they are all lost!

It would be nice to have some kind of inbox where all of them (the notices, red) go so we can do the boring job when we feel like it. Sure, that will also prevent accidental loses too.

*shouts* When do we want it? *shout*

Now! Or right after they fix the group membership limitations problem. ;) (Oh, to all the persons that want to call out ‘Oh, you ugly b*tch, you’re flashmobbing the JIRA, again’, I suggest you go and read Melissa Yeuxdoux - ctrl+F for melissa - on the group membership limitations JIRA issue. It’s fun, in a painful, pitiful kinda way. ;))

Ah, I just love it when a plan comes together when good ideas spawn from stupid blogposts. This is why I love my commenters and their blogs. Yeey for us! ;)

PS. I was wondering, if you could choose, between JIRA issue MISC-208 fixed and JIRA issue VWR-4117 fixed, what would you choose? Or are there still other, more important JIRA issues for Second Life - and thus our - future? I’m curious, as their are probably a few more that are worthy of my humble vote. We can still roleplay that Second Life is a democracy, right?

PS. Does anybody know how I get this dumb poll centered in the blogposts?! It already has the align = center attribute.

Put it in a table and then center the whole table? Works for me, but I’don’t know how this blog platform would handle that.

You know what really gets to me, some days? The incessant whining and complaints that can be heard in certain parts of the SL community, usually about something LL did or didn’t. Voting through Jira is a much more positive and polite way to channel frustration, feature requests, bug fix requests and other assorted wishes..

Sered, you are genius! *smooshes*

As for the JIRA, yes and no: I’ve seen JIRA issues been ’swept under the table’ - suddenly unreadable to non-Lindens - and Jira Issue MISC-208 concerning group limits which now has 745 votes is still unassigned, nor did any Linden bother to leave some sort of comment there.

well, I have done a lot of basic manual HTML in other software I’m using, but thanks anyway ;-)

@Jira: I haven’t paid enough attention to notice that, yet. In another life, I have learned that, in order to keep a userbase happy, a degree of opennness is required from the software vendor. Maybe LL needs to apply some openness to the way they handle the Jira as well.

Tables are no good. How about position:relative and then moving it those 30px to the right? I hate CSS.

Yeah! I already voted from reading about it in Dandellion’s blog, but, why not log in with a couple of alts and vote again? ;-). And, I prefer this over the group limitations — the teen grid’s not THAT popular, so i’m at 8-10. (Yes, unsure as my computer with good connections — crashes [the WHOLE computer, not SL] at the login screen, and the one that can handle it awesomly, has a lousy ping and lots of packet loss.)

*puts on web developer mode*

Method A: Put it into a DIV with a width of 100% (or the width of your content) and set the DIV’s style to “text-align:center”

Method B: Put it into a DIV and set the DIV’s style to “margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto” (which might not work in this thing that Microsoft calls a browser …)

*web developer mode off*

And why care about divs again if it’s nicely centred using a table? :d

*back to average mode*

Ow, and why can’t we assign a ‘rating’ to our JIRA vote? When submitting any help ticket, I always answer honestly if I think it to be high priority, priority or ‘if you have the time’. Now it is just ‘yes, I reckon this must be fixed’ or ‘don’t bother’.

Because tables are not made for layout, but for structuring data. That’s why. But I admit that it’s not always easy to avoid them completely when doing complex layouts. And in this case, I’m sure it doesn’t really matter which way you do it, as long as it works ;-)
