As some of you might already know, Shoshana Epsilon and I are curators for the Rezzable Cannery Gallery. The Cannery Gallery was set up as a venue for revolving exhibitions. For the grand opening we are preparing the greatest SL photography exhibition in four years of SL history.

The exhibition will be focusing on 5 great Second Life photographers and 8 themes. We acknowledge there are a lot more than 5 residents that are extremely talented in Second Life photography. We could not just ignore their contributions so to give them all a chance to participate, we will also put on display and sale 5 great photographs for each of the following 8 themes: Pose, Race, Sound, Tricks, Darkness, Romance, Wings, and Story.

We know that there must be tons of great photographs we have overlooked up to now, so we ask you to let us know if you have – or know someone who has – an awesome photograph that fits one of the following themes:

• Pose – One of the most important things in first and second life photography is the pose a model strikes. It can depict sensuality, sadness, eagerness… The 5 photographs chosen for this theme shall have ‘pose’ as the most important feature in the photograph. (Curating: Vint)
• Race – Nekos, Goreans, Furries, Elves, Humans, Greenies… We have tons of beautiful creatures amongst our Residents, with each their own traits. The ‘Race’ set will contain 5 photographs focusing on these. (Curating: Vint)
• Sound – For me one of the most amazing things about Second Life is that you can listen to live performances and great DJ’s 24/7. This set of 5 will honor those people streaming their soul into Second Life. (Curating: Vint)
• Tricks – Depthmap, Wireframe, RenderGlow, ctrl+8… When used well can create awesome photographs. The tricks set will show the 5 best photographs using client options. (Curating: Vint)
• Darkness – The play of light and shadow is one of the primary aspects of art. Darkess can be in the shadows, in the events around us, or it can be in the soul. This set will study the role of darkness in art. (Curating: Sho)
• Romance – When we see pictures or lovers, we are wistful or joyous, depending on our circumstances. Romance fires the imagination and ignites our hearts. These 5 pictures will celebrate the joy of romance in Second Life. (Curating: Sho)
• Wings – Fairies, birds, bats, dragons. They all have wings. Dainty when folded, magnificent when spread. Humans sport wings, too, in Second Life. This set will feature wings on avatars (and not!) (Curating: Sho)
• Story – True art tells a story. It leaves the viewer wondering: What just happened? What will happen next? I want to know this person better. The final set of 5 pictures will present pieces of various stories. Visitors are welcome to leave comments suggesting the circumstances around the picture. These 5 photographs will fire the imagination. (Curating: Sho)

The exhibition will start in August on one of the Rezzable sims. Participating photographers will be paid a share of the sales based on the number of photographs chosen for the exhibit. There will also be awards and prizes for the best of the best.
