Dark Eden helps beginning designers: maybe you?

November 5, 2007 12:07 pm

Vivianne Draper, Dark Eden’s mall and business manager - known for it’s dark styled sexy clothing and famous naughty fashion parties - is looking to help beginning content designers in Second Life by giving them - limited - free space on the Dark Eden Island. Ms Draver gives you a free 5-prim street market cart that you may fill with goodies in exchange for you keeping the cart’s content updated and abandoning it when you change status from ‘new or beginning content creator’ to Famous, Successful Second Life Content Designer. It does not even need to be clothing: shoes, hair, guns, neko skins, tails, scripts, collars, textures, lolly pops and other zzzzweet SL stuff are welcome too.

Really, there is no catch*:

Here are the particulars. We’ll give you a cart in the street market area — this is not inside the mall. You get five prims. The space and cart is free. No scripted vendors. No floating text. No scripts of any sort (unless you are selling them).

Content is not restricted to fashion. Any and all types of content creators are welcome to apply. The emphasis on this is creator. If you are infringing on someone’s copyright we will feed you to Stroker’s legal team. We mean this. No dups, no reselling. This is not a yard sale.

We expect you to create content on a semi-regular basis and move towards building your own business and one day moving out and making space for a different new content creator. There is no timeline for this but if your cart contents does not change for several months, expect us to be asking whats up and maybe asking you to move on if you aren’t serious about building a business.

Now, I have a date with Ms Draper next weekend, to discuss my 5-prim business plan and to get me all set up. Oh my God Torley! I’m nervous. I need to buy make fancy clothes! And go shopping for a romantic dinner table, candles and a prim baby**!

* That I know of.
** Plan A: Use the baby to cause feelings of pity, love, motherly feeling and cuteness towards me with Vivianne Draper. - Plan B: Tell Ms Draper that the babie is hers and that she now needs to take care of me.

Are you nuts? VintLab’s autumn outfit.

October 20, 2007 4:39 am

ana lutetia modelling 'are you nuts', vintlab's autumn outfitCalled a halloween outfit by Prok, looking good on Ana Lutetia, not sexy enough for Juliet Ceres, sexy enough for Veyron Supercharge and approved by Spinneke Jewel: VintLab’s ‘Are you nuts?!‘ autumn outfit.

Why the ‘Are you nuts’ name?

  1. It’s something I’ve heard rather often. =d
  2. Oak tree pattern -> Acorn -> Nuts

It contains?

A highly detailed strapless top and an oak tree patterned sweater, nifty gloves, a daring pair of stockings for when you want to ‘be seen’ and a ‘boring’ - but still classy - pair of stockings too, two lengts of prim skirt - for when you need to be decent and for when you need to be sexy and two versions of the pants, so you can wear it as a dress as well as an outfit with skirt or pants.

Permanent Sales?

As usual, 50% off is given to the people that are listed in my ‘exclusive vendor thingie’ on Shop.OnRez, so if you want to save 150L$, say ‘hi, me wants to pay less’ (comments, e-mail, IM, …), and I’ll add you to the vendor*. That way you will see the sales item listed under ‘exclusive’ on your OnRez homepage. But I won’t protest if you prefer to pay 250L$.

(*Disclaimer: Avatars added to that vendor will be more likely to be approached by me to serve as guinea pigs. I don’t approve animal testing, but I do appreciate feedback on the outfits. So hence I need to use avatars for that. ;))

Reviews? W00t!

'Are you nuts?' VintLab's autumn outfit

She has also some cute costumes. VintLabs is a name you shouldn’t forget… (Ana Lutetia - fashion blogger)

I know you don’t want to make super sexy stuff but this is a bit over the top. (Juliet Ceres - fashion creator) (*grins about the selective highlighting*)

Sexy enough for me to wear in public. :) (Veyron Supercharge - Femme Fatale role model and SL Blogger)

I love the design and I’m pretty sure they’ll be quite a success amongst your customers. They look very detailed and manufactured with the quality you are known for Vint. Looking forward to hearing more from you :-) (Spinneke Jewel - famous Belgian avie)

Where to buy?

Both the mod/copy and mod/trans version of the ‘Are you nuts?’ autumn outfit are available on Shop.OnRez. If you prefer in-world shopping, I suggest you drop by at my skybox, my little shop at Mardes or use the MetaMart HUD.

PS. Project ‘Dress Vint’s Human’

The - by now infamous ;) - Leopard Print Top by Mexx has arrived in the Netherlands in healthy condition. Rose Rothlisberger reported it is now sold out, so I’m sure Wuf and my human will have the last two copies. May it safely and ‘un-wrinklingly’ continue it’s trip to Belgium! ;)

Dutch, German or French resident needed to assist me getting a top [resolved]

October 7, 2007 2:35 am

Leopard Top Mexx - help needed!

Update: Wuf Shirabyoshi is helping me to get the top to my human. *Woot!*

When I mentioned that the owner was not going to dress in animal print for the Belgian Second Life meet, I was not joking.

But then I saw this beautiful, funny, black and white, leopard print top with open back that doesn’t actually tries to look like a real leopard had to be killed to produce it.

Mjummie! So I do want the owner to add this one to the RL clothing inventory.

But problems arise:

  1. It’s ’sales’ department so I have to act quickly.
  2. Because of - *grmbl* *swears* etc - VAT issues, they only ship to France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Plan of action:

  1. Laying my paws on the owner’s credit card. *check*
  2. Using that to pay for the top and let it ship to the address of a resident with a French, Dutch or German owner that wants to help me. *check*
  3. Paying the resident that is helping me the shipping costs to my owner’s address in Belgium, be it using L$ or paypal. *check*
  4. Purrring with delight when my owner opens the package and says: ‘Vint, thank you for the gift! I love you! (But am not sure if I’m ever going to wear this.)’

Leopard Top Mexx (back) - help needed!

Wanted:

An avatar with a human that lives in France, Germany or the Netherlands that is willing to help me out here.

Drawback:

Whatever avatar helping me, shall have to give out his owner’s RL living location to me so I’m able to let it ship that way.

Promises made:

If I succeed at getting this top to my human, I promise I’ll force the human to pose with it. =)

Please say ‘yay’ here in the comments if you’re willing to help, and I’ll email you ASAP.

VintLabs’ Winter Outfit: Fluffy, cosy & cheap

October 2, 2007 5:16 pm

VintLab's Winter Outfit: SnowyNow First Life temperatures are getting more chilly, I’m not planning on getting Second Life pneumonia*.

So I wave goodbye to the silks and bikini’s for a few months and I will go with wool, fur and all else that is soft, fluffy and warm.

The ‘Winter Outfit’ contains:

  • Blue cosy sweater (jacket and shirt layer) + prim pipes (starry and non-starry version)
  • Retro top (jacket and shirt layer) + prim sleeves (oh so cute!)
  • Warm pants (normal and sweater version)
  • Winter gloves with cut off fingers

VintLab's Winter Outfit: mod copy version adBoth ‘aboves’ being on different layers and the two styles of pants - one with the sweater texture and one without - makes that you can mix and match this outfit by wearing the retro top on top or easily combine parts of the Winter Outfit with clothing items you already have in your inventory.

VintLab's Winter Outfit: mod trans version adAs I’m tired of guessing if people want mod/copy or mod/trans, I’ve decided to do both. Get the mod/copy version here on OnRez and the mod/trans version here. Both outfits are also available using MetaMart - if you do not have a MetaMart HUD yet, you can fetch one in my skybox - and at my skybox and shop at Mardes. The price is a constant: 200 L$. (Yes, that is correct: NOT on SLexchange anymore.)

You prefer paying only 100L$ in stead of 200L$ for a highly detailed Winter Outfit? That’s now possible. =) I’ve created a ‘private dropbox’ on Onrez, that contains 10 times the mod/copy version and 10 times the mod/trans version of this warm Winter Outfit for only 100 Linden Dollars. I want to the ‘known customers’ dropbox to give people I know / read this blog a chance to buy this winter ensemble - and any upcoming clothing releases - even more cheap. The only danger of getting on that ‘known customers dropbox list’ is that I might bug you to take a look at a clothing item prior to release and ask if you have any feedback. If interested in paying less, IM me your avatar name or drop me an email at ‘vint at vintfalken dot com’ ‘info at vintfalken dot com’ (oops). I’ll then add you to the avatars that are allowed to buy from this OnRez dropbox. It’s a limited edition of 20 in total, so huwwy wup. ;)

* Yeah, I know, we don’t depend on RL weather in SL. But I’m getting tired of all those ’sexy’ outfits. I want to dress warm.. or fluffy… or pink.. or subordinate… or hobo… or dreamy… or… whatever. As long as it’s not just - plain - sexy.

(Smiley, want this outfit as a freebie for the teen grid? Then let me know. ;))

New tutorial: adding depth to SL clothing textures

September 20, 2007 9:45 am

Tutorial: adding depth to clothing textures ISo, I was to silent for y’all? Hmm. *ends silence* This time not to rant about Second Life’s society, though. :p

I’ve gotten a lot of ‘what do you think of my clothing design’ questions recently. And quite often I had to answer: ‘I love the shading on the butt & breasts, but euhm… what about shading ‘in’ the texture?’ It’s neat to see people get the shading of the human/avatar correct, but only to often that leads to neglecting the textures itself:

Tutorial: adding depth to clothing textures IMistakes in light source / bad photo-sourcing. Not having any sense of depth/play of light withing the clothing item itself, etc. Now I know, wrinkles are fashionable at the moment, but believe me, a well shaded button or collar works too. So, I decided that besides only complaining, I should give people a clue about what I do want to see. And the ‘adding depth to SL clothing textures using photoshop’s layer styles’ tutorial was born.

I hope it will be of use to some avies, and decided to be a good neko girl for once and to not link to some so called ‘top notch’ Second Life designers that could really benefit from taking a look at this shading tutorial. *grins*

Vint: not yet tamed

September 17, 2007 3:37 pm

Vint Falken: Eileen is also not my style. :/
Veyron Supercharge: Let’s not discuss your style dear.

Somehow I talked myself into playing ‘dress vint’ with Veyron. I know, not a smart thing to do. :p But hey, I’ll probably have to become a grown-up mature human avie someday? Not! If you are wondering, despite Veyron’s evil intentions to get me all sexy, most conversations during this two-day shopping spree went like this:

‘Lookie V., that’s neat!’
‘No.’
‘And this one?’
‘No!’
‘But surely you’ll like this one?!’
‘No, Vint!’
‘And I have this in my inventory. Nice, no?’
*frustrated Veyron*

Vint Cossack (dress Vint, failed version)So each time Veyron said ‘no’, Vint saw it was good, and bought the item. *grins* I got a neat new uniform - slash end speculations of Vint being fulltime Neko of the Reich and on a very dubious part of the political spectrum -, white-black-red hair from Calisto cut in a way the owner would never have the guts for and a cute white fluffy winter hat - no furries were harmed for making it, I think. Looks good, no?

But I must admit, actually, I’m loosing the battle with Veyron. In Veyron dresses Vint Falken she promised I could keep my shape. Nope. She made me buy earrings and thus change my elven ears so there was actually a spot to put that stange metal humans call jewelery. She promised I could keep my ‘monochromaticly pale skin too. But then urged me to add some color. I showed her pink spots, magenta spots, blue spots, … but nothing was good enough. In total despair, I clicked my - once - favorite human skin from tĂȘte-a-pied and chose ‘wear’. Veryon: 2, Vint: 0.

And then her maybe most important promise: I got to keep my ears! Problems soon arrised when I tried one of the ‘this looks like half a day in the bathroom’ hairdo’s she says matches the dress. Suddenly, my elven ears showed and I had two pair of ears. ‘No problem’, she said. ‘We’ll address that later.’ Hell! Did I know instead of making the elven ears disappear Veyron would force me to take off my neko ears!!! I had even colored them to brown/blackish so they would melt in with the hair, hoping she would not notice what was my last link to ‘being a neko’. But she said we should still go for a necklace, and mentioned something about lingery too. Maybe I can sneak in the tail?

Moral of the story? I am a vewwy vewwy vewwy sexy human now. But I don’t want to be that. Really! The owner might want to be a bit more sexy, or at least she feels the ‘public pressure’ to dress more ‘general female’ and less.. well.. Vintish, but Vint does not want to. So I’m not sure you’ll see me in public often like this.

Final thingie would be a (vewwy, vewwy small, one photograph will do) fashion shoot with an SL photographer. I’m doubting between Nephie Eerie - because she brings out the beauty in every person/scene/story/… - and Collin Savon, for as there is one person that can shoot ’sexy’, it’s Collin. Should I ask both? :/

PS. We did agree on the dress and she did let me pick the color of my shoes, after she decided on the - aargh! pointy! - form.

And ah yes, there’s Veyron’s side of the ‘dress Vint’ story too. Will you believe she used the word ‘wailing’ twice?!!

Vint’s personalised neko skin for Open Sim

September 4, 2007 1:11 pm

Vint's personalised neko skin for Open SimAfter Philo Sion, the creator of my cherished SL neko skin refused a dialogue on me exporting that Hybrid skin to Open Sim, I got a friendly offer from Storm Thunders to help me with a personalised vint-style neko skin for Open Sim. Full perm - a very much full perm even, Storm handed to me the layered photoshop file - and for personal use only, of course. *purrrrs*

Storm made me a kick ass striped - yeah, no more spots, I did not want a ‘copy’ of the Hybrid skin and these little tigers looked that cute - white neko skin, with small fluffy fur hairs - so I’m a softie now! - and recolorable spots. Storm, thank you so much for this great work and giving me an awesome very much evolved ‘template’ to work with! (Hint: SLurl to Storm Thunder’s shop)

But Vint would not be Vint if she would not change a few things:

  1. I changed the opacity of the base layer, so the effect on the stripes would resemble that on my Hybrids skin. With that I forgot to put full transparancy on the lashes, and thus ruined those, but luckily that’s easily to correct. I need to try out some more to the find the optimal opacity of the base layer - the ‘recolorable pastel color spots’ are created by making parts of the skin transparant. How much transparant, that’s the tricky question.
  2. The eye make up: I feel like dark, smudgy make up around the eyes at the moment. If there is an Open Sim logo, I might consider adding that under my eye as a small tattoo.
  3. Lips and shading around those: the shading around the mouth was neko style / cat like. I prefer a human face, but tried to give the lips a ‘cattish’ effect with the shading. Made the lips wider to fit my shape better, but I need to do some correction on the below lip still.
  4. The nipples: I think I’m going to photosource a pair of real life nipples. Google image search for ‘naked breasts’, here I come! *grins*
  5. Addes some overall shading and highlights on the butt - it’s cute! really! -, legs and breasts. Maybe a bit to much on the breasts.

Planned skin versions - probably I’ll change make up frequently according to my state of mind:

  1. A winter skin with longer, fluffy and softer hairs: my winter coat.
  2. A summer skin with tan lines.

Strange ideas that probably will never be executed:

  1. A skin with flees upon it.
  2. A skin with ‘rent out ad space on the breasts’. (Start the bidding, please! ;))
  3. A skin where pieces of skin seem ‘ripped off’, showing the flesh beneath it.
  4. An ‘old’ version of my neko self: hanging breasts, rimples, rash, … .

SLart at the Cannery Wear and Cannery varia

August 29, 2007 11:01 am

*Looks at the clock* 4 hours until big opening party. Woot! *looks at to do list* What sound do stressed kitties make again? :d

Cannery Wear: UnisexI’ve redone my SLart at the Cannery Wear clothing textures for the males, this time minding lenght, shadow and color. I like how they turned out. Actually I like them that much that I even prefer to wear those over the female tops. So I’ve labeled them ‘UniSex’. 4 in a box, all textures on a shirt as well as jacket layer, for the male fashionistas - if those exist, that is. So Smiley, how do you want yours delivered? Launching a rocket over grid borders? ;)

Cannery: Foolish FrostIf all goes well, my sleeping bag is being spread out on Cannery grounds as we speak I type. Not being very sure if I’ll still be able to TP back to the Paradise Lost after this night’s party, I decided it was better to prepare for me spending the night on the sim. So I’ve squatted a container and Foolish Frost promised me a sleeping bag to keep me warm at night. I still need to work on the luxury a bit though and add some other stuff to my temporary home, as I’ll probably camp there more often when I’m tired tired to TP home.

Cannery: Big Fish catches Something Smelly (rightasrain rimbaud)We all know - or should know - I’m not the most patient kitty on the grid, so when the boss was awayish just when I needed him to answer some questions, I decided to have some fun. Lack of wool made me do this: ‘Big Fish’ catches ‘Something Fishy’. Good advice: never leave your avie unattended when I’m nervous. *grins*

And the thing I am looking forward to the most? The moment Shoshana will come online, teleports into the Rezzable Cannery sim and I can hug her and scream ‘We did it!’. That amongst others. =d

PS. Yes I tend to rant at such exciting times.

From the sweatshop: SLart at the Cannery Tshirts.

August 28, 2007 2:50 pm

Making Tshirts in SL is easy, right? There are dozens of tutorials about how to do it right. Yet, today, I do not refer to Photoshop with my prefered, loving nickname for it ‘PS’, but as ’sweatshop’. Why so? Well, for starters, it crashed on me twice. Of course we regularely save our work. Not. And then there is the frustration of adding all sorts of detail to your clothing, although you know it will only show up half because of small textures. Pfff.

SLart at the Cannery Tshirts: you better heart Vint! ;)For girly Tshirts there is always the problem of the ‘what do I put on the front’. It’s almost impossible to put any text on the front side, because even if you take into account the breasts mesh, there’s no way to know which size and shape of breasts the avatars will have. So no text there. Some fishes then? We all seem to love fishes lately, so why not. =)

And then, what do I put on the back? No artwork, as somebody else is already doing that. So what’s typically about the cannery? Fish! And SLartists! Because although SLartists and RLartists have a lot in common - creativity, passion, a certain view upon the world - they do differ, if only because the worlds they represent differ. And a free ‘I <heart> Vint’. *grins* I hope people will see the humor of that, and will not think I’ve put the ego slider to the max. =)

(And then I did not mention the hassle of uploading all textures, creating the shirts, labelling, wearing them for the ad, creating the ad, … . I pity people who do mass Tshirt production in Second Life.)

SLart at the Cannery Tshirts: washed to hotAnd if you already thought girly Tshirts were a pain, here come the gent’s. Now I know why they are that hard to dress. I knew about the short tshirt layer and actually needing to use the jacket layer. But I did not realise it would be this bad. Looks like the wrong washing machine program was used. Several times.

Shading is hard compared to girlie tops - upper part of breasts shiny, belower part more dark - too. Now, I want the tshirts to be tight. But how tight? And how can I know if the avie wearing the tshirt will have washboard abs or just plum pudding? And - of course - going for the abs, how do I shade such things? And how do I do the breasts without letting them look like lady’s breasts. And maybe the washed out yellow is a bit to un-manly too. But the smiling shark is neat, no?

Anyway, I think the male version will need some more work tomorrow - or shrunken Tshirts should become fashionable again overnight. And sadly enough, I think neither male or female version beats my ‘Rejeanne’ top in quality. And now I’m a bit afraid that top turning out that good was just ‘luck’. *sobs*

Pocket Pfeffer’s first with the PrimSkirtBuilder

August 8, 2007 7:06 am

Pocked Pfeffer with skirt by primskirtbuilderPocked Pfeffer shows her first creation with the PrimSkirtBuilder on her blog ‘Pocket Pfeffer’s Second Life’ and Flickr and now she aks:

The one thing that still drives me crazy is making a kinda ‘blouse’ type shirt. I can never get the sleeves right, straight edges etc. So Vint & Dalien, why not put your very intellegent heads together and come up with a PrimBlouseBuilder??? PLEASE!

Well, because you ask that nicely. ;) If only I had the slightest clue what a ‘blouse’ type shirt is? For the sleeves: use hollow cones or cylinders? Or instead of hollow, just texture ‘the outer sides’ with an alpha layer? That’s just my 0.02 L$. Or is it that you have problems with the shirt template? *scratches ears* Maybe you have a picture example to show what you exactly mean?
