I’m also a ‘big sucker‘ for Second Life parody songs. Of course, I’m Foolish Frost’s number one fan, but it does no harm listening to another great musician once in a while, does? One of those musicians, is Niko Donburi who wrote songs like “My Favourite Things (about Second Life), “Living Virtually” and “Second Life, That’s where I want to be” and “Escape (The Second Life Song)”. An excerpt from - the perfect song to get out of your Second Life depression - the “My favourite things (inSL)” lyrics:

Offers of friendship and IM conversations
Dance balls and pose balls and new animations
Earning some Lindens with the songs that I sing
These are a few of my favorite things

Like all Second Life musicians, Niko Dunburi above all wants to be heard, so you can download most of his Second Life parody songs - like my favourite “Dear Linden, Dear Linden” at Niko’s last.fm page. Definitely have a listen to “Escape (the SL song)” too!

Learning new games and vocabulary
Like tringo and slingo and of course primtionary
Taking a class to study scripting
These are a few of my favorite things

If you like Second Life music, musicians and comedy, I strongly advise you to take a look at the line-up for the Hobo Block party, February 27th through March 1st!

Wearing some clothes that a friend has made for me
Sailing a yacht on a virtual sea
Up in a sky box cybering
These are a few of my favorite things

And of course, if you wish to show real life appreciation of this music, and you have an Amazon or iTunes gift card at hand, there’s the Tunes inSL project, based at riaa.isfullofcrap.com, featuring more than 40 Second Life live music artists by now.

Shot at the Techra, PGA (OpenSim based Grid) & Crimson Shadow

“I’m going to machinima this!” was something that came up in my head all of a sudden when I noticed an extremely high frame rate on the PGA, so there I was, unprepared, with only a demo version of Fraps. Which lead to me having only 30 seconds fragments, of which some even got _lost_ somewhere on my disk. Stuff I know I shot, but can’t find anywhere. Then, next in line was Windows <strike>Moviemaker</strike> Moviebreaker. It would not allow me to edit anything longer than 90 seconds, well, I could edit it, but it would refuse to safe. So I had to make this one in 4 separate parts, and then glue them together and add the audio track. Hence, not much “alignments” between video & audio, sadly enough. There are 2 things though, that I take full blame for:

I left the “avatar names” hoovering above the avatars. Basically, because I have no clue how to turn that off.

I forgot to go into “full view without user interface”. Basically, because I forgot the key combination.

update: iTunes inSL has been renamed to ‘Tunes inSL’ as Amazon links were added.

The ‘live music’ scene is one of Second Life’s most compelling uses: <strike>sitting naked behind your pc, you can attend a live performance, insult the artist as their crew can’t physically hurt you and drink yourself totally waisted as you do not need to drive home.</strike> Oh. Wait. That had to be: “you can enjoy tons of different music styles from enchanting artists - which are easily reachable through IM or chat after their performance - brought to you live from all over the (real) world without the time loss of deciding what to where and needing to go and return from a smoky club.” Better, no? ;)

Of course, when attending a live performance in Second Life, you tip as a ‘thank you!’, be it the venue, the artist or both. Sadly, there were a few occasions that you did not have the needed L$ on your balance, or got distracted so you forgot. That may happen. Luckily, you can now make up for this, and it won’t cost you a single L$. A brilliant idea from the creative depths of Crap Mariner’s mind:

Did you get an iTunes or Amazon gift card for the holidays or any other merry occasion?* Why not show your support for live music in Second Life by buying music from Second Life musicians through iTunes or Amazon? Go to the Tunes inSL website to discover which SL artists you enjoy listening to have their songs up on iTunes/Amazon. Then follow their link to iTunes or Amazon and show them your love by purchasing one of their songs or even a complete album.

* Waiting for an iTunes or Amazon gift card is not necessary. You can also purchase the songs just because (you love them and want to show your support).

What did I do to show my support? The Tunes inSL logo design by VintLabs. (which I’m btw using as my first fulfilled Akoha mission, but more on that later) You like? Me kinda proud of it, so if you do not like, please formulate that in a sensitive and delicate way. Thanks! ;)

(Compression kills. Click to see without distortion, please!)

As this whole post is about sharing, joy and support, I want to thank The Boss for giving me permission to use the Greenies iPod in an actual logo design and mention that although Foolish Frost’s songs ‘Avatar’ and ‘Prim in My Hand’ are not available on iTunes or Amazon, you can listen & download them for free at music.rezzable.com.

Do you know any Second Life musician that could use some extra promo and a push of iTunes or Amazon sales? Make sure to let them know about Tunes inSL, ‘How do I get added’ is clearly explained there. They will join the list of famous SLive Musicians such as Grace Buford, Suzen Juel, Melanie Fudge and Rich Palmer. Do inform friends which own iTunes gift cards too! And the perfect virtual holiday present? An iTunes or Amazon Gift Card code and a link to the Tunes inSL website! ;)

Update: Thanks to Michael Cela’s suggestion that a less DRM limited option would be nice also, artists available on the Amazon music store now also have those links featured.

Y’all see, rather unplanned - Facebook relationship reminded me of it - I went to a kickass little festival in my old home town yesterday. Ok, to be honest, I can’t even judge it to be kickass, as I arrived late, and saw only one band. But that band swept me <strike>off my feet</strike> out of my boots*: Quantum Fantay was full of awesomenes! With a daring mixture of rock, psy, electro, trance, metal and folk - and whisperings of ‘this is _so_ like Ozric Tentacles - they were a pleasure to listen to and - bass player had the kewlest shape & skin ever - look at.

Finding it hard to describe just how wonderful their sound was, I don’t expect you to take my word for it. I suggest you go listen for your self, either on Quantum Fantay’s official website or on their - I know, but just for once - MySpace. See, Belgium does not just have great beer & chocolate, but also friggin’ awesome sounds.

As usual, I got the dress code all wrong. Woops. :D

First thing Torley said to me? ‘Is that a watermelon drink you’re holding?’ :p

Jax Streeter gave the best of his virtual self and played one hell of a set - with ‘Avatar Superstar’ as my favourite song. As promised, I bumped the song 9 times on TheSixtyOne.com and gave Mr. Streeter my underwear layer. He has at least one new fan after this gig! /me hums: ‘No matter where you’re from. No matter who you are. In this world… you are… superstar… avatar. Play like you are. Act like you are. Rezz like a superstar, avatar!‘

<p align"=justify">More photographs of the exhibition opening in the Koinup Windlight Exhibition Opening Flickr set. For those curious: All photographs except the one of Torley Olmstead were shot with the ‘Pirate’ WindLight Preset.

The winning entries and 7 nominees for the Koinup Windlight Contest will still be on display in-world for a few week, so if you missed the opening, you can still go and see them. Correction, you should still go and see them! Directions: Open your map and search for ‘Cannery’ (or click this SLURL), upon arrival at the Cannery sim, you’ll see a big sign saying ‘Koinup & Rezzable’. Click the TP disk located under it, and we’ll get you right to where you need to be… but you won’t hear a live concert of Mr. Streeter.

PS. A certain Miss Mira owns me bandages for my poor little sour paws. Never ever give me a lighter before telling me to detach it when I plan on typing! ;)

I first stumbled over Bob Ricci at thesixtyone.com, listening to his ‘depressive rock song‘. A steady rock song, about an artist that wants to write a depressive rock song, but has the huge problem, that everything in his life is ok, and he has no depressing story to tell. It’s _hilarious_. As a bonus, the riff sounds indeed very nice - he sings ‘it would be such a pitty to waist this riff’ - and he can actually sing.

One of his more recent song creations is ‘Photoshop‘: an ode to the power good knowledge of Photoshop gives you. Please sing along with me (and fill in the blanks that I could not understand):

I used to be the biggest loser, I never could do anything right. I wet the bed until I was 14. Could never hold my own in a fight. But suddenly everything got changed. My whole life story rearranged. And all my friends they think that I’m deranged, but they don’t understand the godly powers that I gained.

I have got Photoshop, and I just can’t stop: I just copy, paste and I drag and drop. And everything in my life seems so much better! Ah, that faithfull day, at CompUSA, I was picking up a copy of GTA, and they were having a two for one special if you bought them together.

I got all A’s on my report card. At least the one I showed my dad. And here’s a note of Cameron Diaz, saying I’m the best she ever had. I got the girl of my dreams, to finally break up with Eugene. When she saw those pictures - so obsene - of Eugene all tight up in bed with her dear aunt Eline.

I have got Photoshop, and I just can’t stop: I just copy, paste and I drag and drop. And everything in my life seems so much better! Making fake ID’s, ???? breeze, just a couple clicks and I’m 23. Oh, and here’s a picture of me with my friend Eddy ????.

It shouldn’t be a mystery, that I go down in history, as one of the most famous photoshoppers over century, but I’m just hoping, nobody could possibly be on to me, while I’m still alive and kicking, because they will haul me out to jail. Then I’ll go on regrettably to work for a federal agency, helping pigs in suits with cracking down on other forgeries and when I’m finished up in there, they’ll strap me to an electrical chair to serve as an example to you noobies everywhere.

The Greenday’s concert is all sold out now, but I just got a backstage pass. And here’s my brand new SAT scores, the college board can kiss my ass. Here’s my check from MTV, and it’s all made out to me! And it will probably take an eternity before accounting finds out that I’m not an employee.

I have got Photoshop, and I just can’t stop: I just copy, paste and I drag and drop. And everything in my life seems so much better! Like this girl I date, thinks I’m 28, little does she know that I’m ????. And she even thinks I’m certified to forecast the weather.

Hilarious, no? Also very agreeable are ‘Unhackable on the tones of ‘You are Beautiful’ and ‘an Internet Love Song‘.

Thank God for The 61! ;) (And see, I don’t bump only Second Life artists! ;)

And for the photoshop-nerds reading this, what was the most evil thing you ever did as it came to ‘forgery’? Or what was your best attempt at doing something evil with photoshop-forgery? With me it was a few report cards (used), messing with friend’s photographs (used) and a fake bank transfer paper: changing the bank account number where the money for a 1 week not obligatory school trip should be transferred to, before handing it to the parents. Anyway, we never used that. The conscience - and fear to get caught - timely kicked in.

Linkage to SL artists on the 61:

Dolmere Talamasca has written out a nice overview of all Second Life artists currently on TheSixtyOne.com, including links to their profiles. If you are a member of The 61 and did not hear yet of the organised 61 bump bombs to encourage and support SL artists, I suggest you IM him and say ‘Hi. I want to bump!’ If you are not a member yet, and want to join, I kindly suggest you list me as a referrer. That way, I automatically subscribe to you - seeing what music you like and what you think worthy of bumping - and I get more points to bump SL artists. Well, frankly, I bump any song I like. Latest giddy discovery: Miranda Rensch - I like making Faces.

Second Life avatars, whatyathink?

Apparently, not all what is 61 ‘diggs’ Second Life avatars on ‘their’ website. On MaxBumps for instance, they think ‘What do you think of Second Life Avatars for musicians and users?’ is one of the 10 things you should really know about your fellow 61′ers. *sighs* Some funny, stupid and enervating responses to that question after the break.

*****************************************
100th 61 Bump Bomp Party starting today at 8 AM
*****************************************

Some of the highly insightful reactions of fellow 61′ers:

I don’t think about them very much - I find the variety of avatars on t61 fun and interesting, so too much of any one kind gets boring. I mean, if three dozen people chose adorable hedgepigs as their avatars, that’d get boring too, no matter how adorable they were. OK, maybe four dozen. (Iyzie)

Is that what those avatars are? I had no idea. I guess they’re alright. It kind of takes the humanity out of the interaction aspect of the site, but then again if it wasn’t Second Life avatars, it would be random pictures, so I guess as long as they feel it portrays their personalities, it works for me. (KeithWarrensEa…)

Those avatars inspired me to make a podcast dedicated to their work. Apparently T61 has a pretty large group of Second Life players … and who am I to judge? I’ve got the artistic abilities of a doorstop. (PuntSpeedChunk…)

The whole Second Life concept creeps me out personally, but people can pick whatever avatars they want. (Shayborg)

Now, really does this need to be an issue? Off to the interesting part… PARTYING! ;)

61 Bump Group and Get It Together Party

The ‘Get it Together’ song? That’s a musical cooperation between different artists to raise awaress about the splendid work some of the free in-world musical locations are doing. A sort of ‘thank you, for getting us heard’:
