An Israel-based company backed by Silcion Valley venture firms said Monday it plans to bring Second Life’s virtual worlds to mobile devices.

Vollee Ltd. said it will bring San Francisco-based Linden Lab Inc.’s 3D virtual world platform to 3G handsets via its streaming mobile games service. Vollee said its Second Life mobile service will work for both existing users and those trying out Second Life for the first time through the mobile service.

Vollee says its proprietary software is the only one on the market that can stream any high-end PC title to mobile, including massively multiplayer online role playing games. Vollee’s Second Life mobile beta trials will begin in May 2008.

From Vollee.com/secondlife: This is it! Finally! Real access to persistent worlds directly from your mobile. We are offering Second Life on mobile by Vollee as an open beta free of charge. All you have to do is pre-register here and if you have a supported handset we will contact you shortly with instructions to get your mobile client. Initial roll-out will be this coming May in the US with more to follow based on pre-registration requests. If you have questions take a look at the FAQ, and if we did not do a good enough job in addressing your question then feel free to e-mail sl@vollee.com…. Oh and by the way, obviously your information will only be used by us regarding Vollee services and not shared with anyone.

I wonder if theirs will be faster/better/whatever than Sun Inc’s mobile client for Second Life. Wait and see? Or Smiley, can you go snoop around at their labs? ;)

Although AjaxLife is still in todler fase - which means it still needs to grow, develop and evolve ;) - we can now take our first steps on the grid through our browsers.

AjaxLife works on the main grid with the following features:

Basic map

Teleports

Accepting/declining teleport offers

Local chat, instant messages (partially - you can’t start them except with online friends)

Inventory received notifications

Friend on/offline notifications

Balance change notifications, etc.

It also correctly logs you in and out, and notifies you if you were disconnected for any reason.

If now only I could log in… . I think it’s suffering from the load of interested avatars/people. :(
