Die Hard 4 aka Live Free or Die Hard at the Silverscreen sim. So this is what LL wants, right? RL business using Second Life to promote themselves.

Die Hard 4 in Second LifeBut promoting a movie like ‘Live Free or Die Hard’ in SL, how does that rhyme with ‘… real-life images, avatar portrayals, and other depictions of extreme or graphic violence, and other broadly offensive content are never allowed or tolerated within Second Life‘ from the official ‘Keeping Second Life Safe, Together’ statement?

Let’s assume you could be ‘not safe’ in SL. Then I’d certainly feel ‘not safe’ with a bunch of avies on the loose thinking they are the next Bruce Willis. Should I now AR the whole Silverscreen sim? Ow, and I think the Microsoft sim doesn’ t make me feel safe either. It reminds me of Windows 2000, you see. Brings back child hood trauma’s and such. *AR’s Microsoft Sim*

And then the L-word. Let’s assume I’m a puritane. And thus easily offended. *Flags the L-word sim.* Channel4 and Reuters? They talk about rape, murder and depict extreme violence in their stories. More then hunderd First Life avies dead in bombings does look horrible and is rather shocking to me. I live in a dream world after all, and I want to keep it that way. *AR’s Channel4’s and Reuters’ sim too.*

Vlaanderen Second Life: politics is about freebies and camping

My jaw came down rather painful on my keyboard when I read the following in a promo-machinima for Second Life Vlaanderen: ‘dagelijks 15 000 bezoekers’. Fabrice Morreau - we know him in-world as Calibre Green or ‘the avie with the very boring bed‘ - claims to have 15k visitors a day to the ‘Vlaanderen’ sim he owns together with Jurgen Verstrepen. Like? What!? No way! Kiss my meta-ass, as this is an enormous lie.

Vlaanderen Second Life: camping at SL minimum wageI quickly IM’d Kean and she seconded me: ‘There’s no way he can pull that off without campers.’ So, mister Morreau? 15k visitors/day? All interested in what you and Jurgen have to say? Using your sim as a place of free speech to discuss politics? Back that up with some figures, please. Show us your sim is as popular as you claim it is. Or should I give it a try?

First we need to know what the ‘traffic’ figure is that SL allows us to see for land: ‘Traffic is a number for each parcel which is based on the amount of Residents who visited, and the time spent on that parcel out of their total time in world that day. It’s calculated using a complex algorithm.‘ (more information about ‘traffic’ at SLeducating)

Vlaanderen Second Life: camping at SL minimum wageWhich makes that your traffic figures are always way above ‘unique visitors’ stats. Especially if you do like mister Morreau and create camping locations on your sim. Camping will allow people to earn Linden Dollars in exchange for sitting at a fixed location in your sim. Hence they spend more time in your sim, hence the ‘traffic’ number increases, which makes you end up in search better. Those poor campers camp their meta-butts of for L$2/10min or not even 0.04 EUR /hour. Is that how Lijst Dedecker plans to create new jobs? *grins* Fabrice Morreau offers ‘employent’ in that way to 8 campers: 4 dancing job, 3 sunbathing jobs (2 out of the 3 sunbathing campspots don’t work, and thus return no Linden Dollars at all, although they are advertised as camping spots!) and 1 sitting job.

Vlaanderen Second Life: a sitting jobFurthermore, the location in the Flanders sim ‘Lijst Dedecker party’ is advertised with the following words: ‘Vlaanderen - Media Vila (should be villa?) - VL - Radio - Free T Shirt - Tatoo (tattoo?) 3l$ - camper - Free SMS Gratis SMS versturen vanuit SL DancePad’. Not much about talking politics there, no?

Vlaanderen Second Life: buying the electorate (agent case freebies)In Belgium we have a rule involving a ’sper periode’ that states that political parties can’t give away free stuff a couple of weeks before the election. I know Linden Labs has made it awefully clear (in their TOS opposed to what they write on the website) that Linden Dollars hold no monetary value, but I still feel they are breaking this rule with the camping stuff and the freebies. But anyway:

Let us take a look at sim Vlaanderen’s traffic numbers, shall we?

sim Vlaanderen - Vlaanderen: 1443
sim Vlaanderen - Lijst Dedecker party: 8445 (region with 7 campers)
sim Vlaanderen - Lijst Dedecker: 95 (héhé)
sim Vlaanderen - Vlaams Freebie Shop: 3869 (region with 1 camper)

Vlaanderen Second Life: Horrible work conditionsThe traffic number indeed totals at +- 15k (13852 to be exact) but - again - that is no way near the ‘number of daily visitors’. At all. Yet another reason - besides the bed being boring - for me to not vote for this guys: if you don’t feel a bit ashamed for lying about visitor statistics to get some extra media attention, then why on earth do you think you’re capable of governing my country?

If any club owner or anyone elso who can compare with their own traffic ranks/visitor count wants to do some guessing at what the real visitor stats for Sim Vlaanderen could be, I’d be very gratefull! Take the following into account:

Total traffic: 13.8k
Camping spots: 6 working, 2 defect
Feebie shop: check (mostly giving away Agent Case stuff)
Content: almost none
Social interaction possibilities: almost none (8 campers, 2 freebie shoppers when I went to check)
Classifieds: one, for L$50

Update: Just look at this visitor count numbers for the ‘major sims’ and then tell me how Vlaanderen would ever get to 15k/day.

Prove of utter cutenessI stumbled (actually, del.icio.us’d) over Honey Wendt’s blog yesterday, and although I don’t agree with her ‘crusade against child pornography in Second Life’ tactics - C’mon? Treathening to report someone for breaking TOS by copy pasting IM conversation in a notecard and spreading that as she herself does copy paste those convo’s and others on her blog? - she makes an interesting point in her blogpost ‘So I was right about the CP getting LL in trouble‘ when she says:

Dear LL, have you ever checked out the child skins that are being sold in SL? LL, you know very well what photosourcing is and that for the past two years there has been complaints from your residents that those skins are made from real children and have genitalia of real children, and used by these sick age-players to do whatever they do. You have been telling us the whole time that it’s simulated porn and not child pornography, I’m glad you are finally becoming aware of the difference between virtual and real.

For those who do not know, photosourcing is about using FL photographs as a base for creating skins, clothes, textures, … . So if you have a child’s skin with genitals in your inventory, better get rid of that before LL is fuly acknowledging this little problem and drops the ban hammer on everyoneavie that owns such a skin. Scared we won’t know which gender you are anymore? For the girls I suggest wearing a dress, for the boys dragging a football along will do. :p

She also reports on a ’school’ in Yongchon ran by Madame Lolita McAllistar and some IM conversations with child avies solliciting escort services and a pimp working for that Lolita Allistar. Strangely enough the school was reported to the Lindens already in December 2006 and is still open - although the age play sex thingie is way less advertised out in the open after Lolita got a temp ban - up to now.

But I still think it’s rather stupid we can murder child avies but not sleep with them. *still confused*

My 0.02 pixels on age play in SL

The Irony of our Second Life's: my 2px on age playLet’s see if I get this right: I may murder little innocent children, but I may not sleep with them?!

Before you state I’m obviously sick: I like my avies male and grown up, thank you. Anybody that uploads, shares, sells, … FL child porn in Second Life should be removed from the grid without even a second thought. But ‘our investigations revealed the users behind these avatars to be a 54-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman‘. Those person’s avatars were having SLex. That’s all. No proof at all that they were responsible for spreading the first life child porn found. Then why remove them from the grid? Because a TV station decided to make - yet again - an issue of sex in Second Life? I’ll bet my meta-ass over the fact that that german TV crew did not ‘by accident’ stumble over those two avies having sex. They went actively looking for it, just to get a shocking story.

Sex with animals isn’t allowed in FL neither (although I’m not sure about all US states *grins*), yet relationships between furries and human avatars are endulged. Will that be punishable too when PETA starts to complain? On the grid we may murder and rape and do to war captives as we please. Any avie brought before the war tribunal at The Hague already? The thirteenth amendment prohibits slavery, so let’s kick all slavetraders off the grid? No, of course not, because LL assumes those actions are all taken by consending adults and it’s a simulated world after all. So let’s be consequent and just say to those avies ‘get a room’.

The report that caused all this: (and subs for it you can find here)

Ok. I know. We have already some men doing - what you might call a good job at - the ‘blog about your Second Life’ thingie. But face it. We girls don’t want to talk about the same thing all the time. And if all your blog postings contain at least three of the following five key words: marketing, business, branding, launch, SLentering (<- some even claim that’s better then SLex! ;)), we might label you as boring after a while. *Right click, mark feed as read.* Except for Wrath and Alexander none of those men actually seem to _do_ something in SL.

I have good hopes that ‘the new guys’ will be blogging about things we girls actually care for like (clothing) design, cute Neko’s, animations and poses, building good looking stuff (which doesn’t necessarily needs to be jewelry or guns), guns, scripting (it may be about scripting other things then guns), exciting new Sims filled with adrenaline kicks, the escort business, community happenings and welfare, gigs, SLFlickr, … . Shortly put: everything that our Second Lives revolve around. (Did you notice I just sort of said that those Second Lifes _don’t_ revolve around being yet another target for marketers on the loose? And do note this down: whatever brand of condom you’re promoting, they sure as hell need to supply us with awesomely good Xcite before they will be able to convince us! ;)

What I actually wanted to say is, I <heart> the blogs from people actually _living_ their Second Lifes (creating stuff or just being good company and commenting on what others create) in stead of standing on the side lines sim edges watching and commenting upon the interesting phenomemon SL is said to be. That’s why I’m glad to see the following men joining our little ‘SL blogosphere’:

  1. Looker Lumet - Belgian, interested in SL photography, hangs out at the Paradise Lost club often. Hmmm… sounds familiar. I think I might be able to relate. :D
  2. DesertWolf Longstaff - I think he might not need an introduction anymore, but here we go anyway: the only person I’ve thinking of a - sort of - reasonable argument _pro_ voice in SL. Congratulations! ;)
  3. Raul Crimson - (Really) goodlooking furniture designer with a love for art.
  4. Gary Hazlitt - Ok, not new, blogging since August 2006 but went sort of blog-dead in Januari 2007. But he promises he’s back. That and he has a hell of an excuse for not blogging for that long.
  5. Kris Constellation - Wellspoken, French, hansom, frequents Paradise Lost and is thinking of looking into the Flickr / LSL relations some more. W00t! ;)
  6. Loki Popinjay - Hmmm. Url, please? I did not write it down. :( And some content would be nice too! ;)

I just wish I could add Andro to the list too, as he always visits such exciting places and has a great sence of humor. And it would be good practise for his English (although that’s getting better each day!) as I’m sure he has a basic knowledge of flirting with girls in English mastered by now. Time to step up, hun! ;) Until then, I’ll have to content myself with his photoblog on Flickr. :(

Ok.. there are dozens of people just like Troyj Klaar, uploading and selling things that aren’t theirs. I know. Why did I pick him out, well he was as unfortunate as to choose the same moment as me for listing stuffon SLBoutique. Bummer. :d

Why would I love to shoot them, you will ask?

  1. Selling freebie packages at L$500?!
  2. Packages priced L$1, L$2 and L$10 are not freebies, dear Troyj! Besides, how dare you charge for something that was and should be free in first place!
  3. Louis Royo? Linser? For christ’s sake, create something of your own! It costs you L$0 to find it through image search at google, L$10 to upload the texture and you’re charging people L$25 for it?!!
  4. Mr. Klaar, it’s ecstasy, not ectstacy!
  5. These things keep appearing in the search results (spamming, I call it) when I’m looking for something decent and of use, sold or given away by the person who has actually made the object/texture/script/pose/whatever!
  6. Some, like Nathan Mahoney, even have the guts to put ‘copy’ on the textures to prevent people from stealing what they stole in the first place.
  7. Tell me, Lori Reddevil, what sold at ‘Magical Creations‘ did you actually magicaly create yourself?

Slash me thinks SLBoutique urgently needs a ‘flag for RL and/or SL copyright infringement and for being a very very annoying and unwanted search result‘ button. Or at least something that says ‘Do not show me objects from this seller ever again!‘.

This is why my freebies are non-transfer. I just don’t want them to fall in the hands of such evil persons. :(

Found Injured Neko Comic Part 1SL-hero #1: Cody.

They should have never released that hero costume thingie. It’s way to inspiring for some people!

Although I must admit, I’m curious who killed the cat.. euhm.. neko.

I’m surely going to follow up on this one. It’s always nice to see a Girl With Guns contribute her part to making the SL world a safe place for us all to reside!

SL-hero #2: Cristiano Midnight.

For the open letter to LindenLabs. Does this quote from Kean Kelly sounds awefully familiar: ‘Hm… $8kL missing from my balance, 12k items missing from my inventory, nobody online except (hippos) and all my attachments in my ass. Yeah.. it must be wednesday! Yay!’? Then do sign this letter!

Update: LL did respond to the letter on their official blog. More answers later this week. They promise. :D

The open letter:

Show me more… »

I wouldn’t wager on this…

'Yeah! We survived 1.15.0' party at the PLLaetizia takes a very good stand as she says the Linden Gods are wussies after all. OMFG!!! Land of the free, my ass too! ;)

And LL isn’t the only one giving in to the USA (’s laws). SlExchange recently decided to discontinue the sale of items related to gamble. The writer of this blogpost has a good point when he raises the question: ‘What’s next? Our Xcite?‘ when reading ‘At this time we have only disabled casino-style items and are not yet clear whether other items will also be disabled or when.’ on the official SLexchange blog.

Maybe we can start a web based bookmaking company for SL? Place your bets, at which time will the following events occure in our Secondlifes:

The rating system is replaced by a ‘crimal record’, only accessible to premium members.
Same-gender partnership on file is no longer possible.

LL needs to know about ALL of your bank accounts before you can enter the grid.
Meta-booze must be concealed in a brown paper bag when exploring PG area’s.

We must pledge allegiance to the SecondLife Hand, kneel to the Linden Gods and recite theTOS before building class may start.
Linden Gods and business partners are the only one allowed to have nukes in their inventory.
The official LindenBlog reports about the ‘Axis of Evil’: X-Box Live, WoW and Kaneka and about how their are endangering the further existence of our Grid.
Billions of L$ are spend on ‘no sex before partnership’ campaigns, yet utter n00bs get prim babies and the-anti-griefer-brigade is desperatly in need of fundings.

LL locks the borders of the grid. Except if you are able to prove you have a job waiting for you in-world and succeed at getting a ‘Green Hand’ or immediately pay for a premium account, you can not join anymore.
Health insurance is added: if your job doesn’t include that benefit and you don’t own premium membership your account is terminated when being shot on damage enabled land.
LL takes over Kaneka. Officialy to give them more freedom where it comes to avatar looks, better clothes and decent builds. Unofficially: ‘Man, those pipelines look neat!’
N00bs need to work tripple shifts as dancers, just to be able to pay for basic building classes.

The take-over on Kaneka isn’t going as well as expected. LL redraws its Linden Gods from all sort of different post and orders them to work on the take-over. Which leaves no Lindens to take care of the giant flood of Abuse Reports filed.
Philip Linden is crowned king at the cathedral. LL forbits reuters to write about the mass amount of avies gathered in the nearby sims, ripping the prim of their bodies, crying out for less lag and attention for the RAM-impaired in this virtual society.

Does anybody else feel like playing Nostradamus Linden? ;)
