All fish at the Cannery

All Fish (Nephie Eerie, Kean Kelly and Vint Falken)

Yeah. I’m feeling better now. And more confident things will work out just fine things will have to work out fine. No room for negotiations there. ;) Funny though, how three persons can all have a very different unique perspective on the same situation.

And does this child’s song exist in English? It’s about a big, mother fish, who tells it’s 10 little children fishies they may swim to the open sea, but that she won’t follow them, as she prefers to stay in the dirty ditch because in the sea there are giant, evil sharks. One by one, the baby fish swim to the ocean, until only one little fish is left. In the end that one gets eaten too and the count down song ends.

Kean Kelly found the English version:

Four little fishes swimming out to sea,
One met a shark!…
And then there were three.

Three little fishes wondering what to do,
One hid in a great big shell…
And then there were two.

Two little fishes looking for some fun,
One chased after a wave…
And that left one.

One little fish with all his friends gone,
Went back home to find his mum…
And that left none!

Is this it? (and why do we make childsongs/poems this grim?)

And my reply:

Yes, although it seems the English are more inventive with their story. We just repeat the same verse over and over with different numbers. Is there a french version of this song too?

This grin: well, to serve as warning as to listen to the mommy (fish) in case of the dutch song? And because children need other ways to deal with concepts like ‘death’ than adults do, and music is not such a bad medium to bring such things? This is still my favorite childrens sleeping song (although it’s a pop song actually) and the reason why I should not get prim babies *grins*

Pfieew, almost finished for SL4B

June 21, 2007 7:38 am

Vint Falken at SL4B: aerial photographyOk, still doing some ‘fine tuning’ although it’s way past deadline, but who cares? Nobody responded to my ‘may we still build?’ question, so I guess it’s ok. *grins* This is how it sort of looks right now (of course with some shallow DoF added and some PS to make up for the lack of WindLight). I’m not really that happy with the build, as compared to the other boots/plots there it looks so damned artificial. I started building this with the WindLight client open and in the back of my mind so the reflections were really neat. Now, well they are just shiny. And I assume nobody will be as stupid as to take the depreciated WindLight Firstlook unto what will hopefully be a full sim. *sobs*

Vint Falken at SL4B: Myg broadly offendedWhat I do like about the whole Second Life 4th Birthday art expositioning thingie is that the cooperation with Myg & Alex was awesome. As we have neighbouring plots, it was easy to just pay a visit or ask the other ones to come over for some help. With positioning my ‘broadly offended poseballs’ for instance. And did I already mention Myg allowed me to paint on her back wall?

Yes, you hear that correctly, if you are broadly offended by any of my work, you will now be able to show that. At the moment there’s only one close to The Irony of our Second Life’s comics - doesn’t Myg look awefully cute when broadly offended? - , but I’ll place some other ones so you can also be broadly offended by my portrets, SLelection campaign or Photoshop work.

And also Olivia Arteer and Dancoyote Antonelli seem to be friendly and cooperative neighbours. Yey! for them too. ;)

Something I also wonder about is the need for every SL4B artist to build that high. I figured it would be nice if it was easy to scout the sim by flying, so I maxed my build at 4 meters. Yet 20 to 30 meters is not an exception and that makes flying with low draw distance on - which will be probably necessary to prevent crashing - a pain. I already flew lost twice, needing to TP back to my plot and start all over.

I’m also doubting if I should put older photographs in the FlickrViewer set - the photographs in that set are the ones that display at SL4B - or that I should just put only SL4B related ones in it and add to the set as I have new ones. Anybody wants to toss a coin for me?

Still to do: broadly offensive content-texture, signs towards Arteer’s and Myg’s plots (+textures), texture for the blank wall I, texture for the blank wall II, put out more broadly offended pose balls and I’m not very happy about how the FlickrViewer boot looks.

Vanny Richez & Lisa Takao

Lisa Takao & Vanny RichezWe all know Myg has not been herself lately, yet she still succeeded at supprising me.

At first I though she was just fooling around when she forced me down to the ground.

Only seconds later - by then she had her foot on my back and a gun against my head - I realised she wasn’t kidding about this.

I love these two girls. I want to show that to them by getting them the nicest portrait texture possible for their new home. Do not fuck this up! I know where to find you.

Lisa Takao (detail)Although holding the drawing tablet’s pen when you’re trembling with fear all over, isn’t the easiest thing to do, I tried my best.

And I hope Vanny and Lisa are happy with the results. So Myg will be happy too. Because then, she might let me live my meta-life in peace. *considers hiring Agent Paine for protection* *and I need a safe house too*

The final file is A4, 300dpi resolution so I couldn’t help myself showing off some of the… euhm… details too… *gniffels*

Video Tutorial: Using PS ‘Liquify’ on SecondLife snapshots

April 19, 2007 11:14 am

I’ve - tried to - explain this to other avies in-world for over 20 times now, and frankly, I’ve gotten rather tired of shouting out ‘use the frigging liquify tool to correct that!!!’ over and over. Badly made clothing edges, avie limbs seriously messed up by strange poses, squared parts that should be round, strange shadows, prim sticking in or out, exaggerated breast size, … most of this snapshot problems can be very easily corrected by doing some basic post-processing using the ‘Liquify’ tool in PS.

An example:

Squared breast vs. Rounded breasts

I was going to write a tutorial about this already ages ago. And then I realized I needed tons and tons of screenshots to go with it, and that I had to aquire those by taking a snapshot in PS, going to GIMP, pasting it, continuing with the liquify tool in Photoshop, taking another snapshot, going back to GIMP, copying, and back to Photoshop, and again, and again and again…

So I gave up on my ‘Text Tutorials uber Alles!’ resolution and made a video tutorial. It’s my first one evvah so please, be mild. If you have any more questions: *points at the comments and miaws*.

This video tutorial is shot in Photoshop CSII (maybe III has even more options there?) and is only a basic. Now you know that the liquify option exists, and what it does, play around with it. Get the hang of it. Experiment. And then show me some results! I’m curious!! Ow, and if you want to play with it without watching my tutorial first, you can find ‘Liquify’ in the ‘Filters’ menu. ;)

Video-tut on using the liquify tool in Photoshop to correct avatar forms and clothes in SecondLife snapshots:

Errors against the English language I bravely admit:

  1. Cloth should be dress.
  2. ‘First and all’ is no English. At all.
  3. Ctrl+Alt+Z is very bad pronounced and sounds like Ctrl+Alt+C.

I beg for forgiveness for those! There was only one take for video and one take for voice. Next time, I’ll try harder (or just go with text again). *grins* *playfully moves her neko-ears* ;)

Of course, first life photographs of our beautiful Helena in full splendor on your PC or notebook are highly appreciated! ;)

And for all the aspiring models amongst you, sign up for the SecondLife’s Next Top Model contest! Interested parties should contact Jada Hoyer in-world. You can join the SL Next Top Model News group for the latest updates, or join the ~SL Next Top Model group to get started in the competition. Entries will be accepted through March 31st. Amongst the prizes are L$25,000, a modeling contract and a professional photo shoot. It seems this event was originally an idea of Ms. Haight and hi-jacked by Jada Hoyer. Read all about it at the SL Herald’s article ‘Scandal! Sl’s Next Top Model… has a twin?‘. I’m very sorry for supplying wrong information and getting some avie’s hopes up high. SL starts to resemble first life: you just can’t trust the media to do a decent background check on something before they write about it. :P

On the other hand, if you want a professional photo shoot, you can always try to tell me how great I am. That usually helps. And if you’re just not good enough at sucking up to someone, some kindly offered L$ can help to pursay me too. ;)

Helena Kirkorian, I thank thee!

March 20, 2007 3:57 pm

She gave me the Paradise Lost as a place to call
my home and meet new friends…
She gave me a place to live, build and rez my photography equipment…
She gave me a place to have fun, called ‘Sisters’… ;)
She gave me a lot of friendship…
And she gave me tons of chances…

… for all these things I will never be able to express my gratitude enough. I would not be where I am now without what she did for me.

… and on top of that, she looks absolutely stunning!

Helena, thank you for being the beautiful person and Avie that you are!

What would a Linden Dollar look like?

March 18, 2007 2:56 pm

Linden Dollars: we spend them, earn them, curse them, worship them, … but when you dream about L$, how do they look? Are they just another number in the upper right corner of your computer screen, close to the package loss? Or are they shiny and bedazzling?

(Vint's) Linden Dollar

My L$ look like this. Just imagine the giant, blinding ‘bling’ effect the L$ would have when you own lots of them! The SecondLife Dollar shines as no currency has ever done before! ;)

PS. This blogpost is not without irony.

(Reflection) In your eyes…

March 11, 2007 4:42 am

Eye's Reflection (texture)Eye's Reflection (texture)

In my eyes, you’ll see
The way it used to be
Take a look and see
The light still shines at me

I always considered these Milk Inc. lyrics great pillow talk. Staring into someone’s eyes and seeying yourself reflected in them as a total proof that you’re on his mind (or at least in his eyes ;)) is hawt, and sexy, … and absolutely tendering.

Eye's Reflection (Vint Falken)So I’ve decided to make a custom reflecting-Vint eye texture. Every Avie who wants me to stare deep into his or hers eyes needs to wear this from now on. I asked two gorgeous male Avies to model them for me, but as it’s hard to decide who looks best with my reflection in their eyes - like I said, they both are gorgeous - you’ll have to do with a photograph of me modelling them off until I’ve made up my mind.

A bonus to the whole thing is that the strong reflection makes the eyes look more ‘real’, ’sparkling’ and ‘vivid’ then a normal eye texture. Even when you look at them from a rather large distance as shown in this picture.

If you want your own pair of reflecting eyes, be it to hand them out to your lovers or to wear it yourself to flatter your sweetheart on a romantic date, contact me in-world or drop me an email. ;)

Update: Upon request ‘my eyes’ are now available at slboutique.com for 0L$. And don’t bug me for getting an extra discount! I treat all people Avies alike. ;)
