It’s (still) alive! Not just ‘Vint’ but also ‘Rezzable’. It has been a bit more quiet lately, leading to a lot of questions like “what are you guys working on?”, “helloooooo… anybody out there?!!!” and - in my case - trillions of capped IM’s. But, today there was a small step for Vint - logging into Second Life again - and a small step for Rezzable - opening it’s ‘Virtual King Tut Special Preview’. With the crème de la (virtual) crème such as Miss LT, Pavig, Ordinal, LightWaves, Foolish, My, Alejandro, Beatrix and many others building, scripting and banging on random grid parts, it’s as expected: Impressive.
To visit yourself, pass by the VW Directory Location or use this TP link to Kings Rezzable. Don’t forget to snapshot good and plenty and submit all those shots to the Rezzable Flickr Group! Remarks, suggestions and “We Love You!’s” may be send via email, comments on the respective blogposts or VW location or you can do me a huge favour and fill out this quick survey after visiting. I know there is no special field to tell us how much you love exactly, but you can put that in the general suggestions one. ;)

No broadband, but do have Tshirts

Silence. I should feel guilty, I know. I kinda do even. Especially when I get email enquiring if I’m still alive - *pinches herself* Yep!!! -, asking me if all is well - yeah, awesomeness! - and asking me when I’ll write something again - err.. now?. But I have a few excuses:
- I’m stuck on 3G/GPRS in the evenings. Which is better than no internet - imagine! scary, no? - but still sucks. Stuff to read loads slowly, image quality is terrible and uploading stuff or logging into Second Life or an OpenSim grid is something I can only dream about.
- This is London! It’s like… hmm… how do I put this. The entire mainland filled with art galleries instead of ad farms, fascinating people in stead of campers, events in stead of abandoned areas, 12 times as many shoe & clothing shops and… err.. well, the transport system is just as flaky I guess. But anyway, this tends to keep me busy.
- The fact that I do need to revive my RL flickr stream in combination with the above “This is London! Woot!” overload of things to do, see & capture, makes I spend the time I can’t spend inSL capturing & playing around with RL pixels. Some more proof of that on Flickr of course.
- RL friends are coming over to London this weekend! (so, don’t get your hopes up to high about me reading up on SL stuff the next few days)
Anyway, I try to read a select group of SL news items still, answer email, Plurk, … but I’ll have a lot of catching up to do when Broadband has arrived at the new residence. I’ll trust you to help me with that when fast-internet-times have finally come! ;) But err, actually, I just wanted to show some images of Lokum & me on our ‘Buy /meloves Prim Tshirts! Mission‘. (I haz a pink & grey one. Going to try and collect them all! ;))
Vint & Human moving to London

Right. I was going to announce this, but in the end, all the paperwork, packing, and saying goodbyes took a bit to much time. So I kept postponing blogging about this until… well… I’ve spend my first night in a lovely apartment in the Camden area. I would write a tremendously long article now about first experiences, how great the apartment looked, how sweet it was from Lokum to come welcome me at the station with a ’slashme loves prim’ Tshirt, and how nice it is to have a friend from Belgium (and appendix) that carried my sleeping gear, and to now spend my first evenings with, were it not that were decided on spending those evenings well. :D So just some random blurbs:
- I’m never leaving the office early EVVAH again. Tube is waaaay to crowded then.
- Bram, there’s a Sushi place at 3 minutes walk from where I live!
- I fell in love with my curtains.
- Still smoking a little, but waay less than in Belgium. I did not have a single cigarette “inside” yet, and planning to keep it this way.
- I went grocery shopping, for now I have: real butter, two ‘real’ breads (got one free, sighs, someone help me eat it?), yoghurt, grapes, cucumber, mature cheddar, coffee (instant, blah) and toilet paper.
- Taking only two pair of shoes, was definitely a mistake.
- My camera gear is still in Belgium, but will come to visit me on Saturday. More images then!
- I got location data on the iPhone images working, but only in Herentals Belgium, not in London. ;( (Scott thinks this might have something to do with the fact that I don’t have an English carrier by default.)
- I did find that hard disk after all! ;)
- I spend half the day installing legal version of Adobe Suite CS3 and then updating it to CS4. Illegal software might be ‘irresponsible’ but at least you get it running in 30 minutes time. *sighs*
- Miss Beatrix Newt is coming to visit us in London soon and will stay at my place. Woot!
- Having to travel 30 minutes is way more annoying, than having to travel 3 meters to work.
- Dear mommy, this means I’m one hour behind on you. So you should not be texting me “good morning” at your 7.30AM!!!
- Jon got me a kick-ass, ‘high-ceilinged’, furnished, old-style but new and neat and clean apartment. (Only, if possible, I’d like to return some of the ‘art’ hanging there to the landlord.)

Vint does OpenSim Machinima
January 30, 2009 9:22 amOk, I know it might not be visible, but tons of effort went into this on… first take a look - preferably high quality on YouTube (and if you’re there anyway, please favourite it or leave a sweet comment *grins*) - and then let me explain…
Shot at the Techra, PGA (OpenSim based Grid) & Crimson Shadow
“I’m going to machinima this!” was something that came up in my head all of a sudden when I noticed an extremely high frame rate on the PGA, so there I was, unprepared, with only a demo version of Fraps. Which lead to me having only 30 seconds fragments, of which some even got _lost_ somewhere on my disk. Stuff I know I shot, but can’t find anywhere. Then, next in line was Windows Moviemaker Moviebreaker. It would not allow me to edit anything longer than 90 seconds, well, I could edit it, but it would refuse to safe. So I had to make this one in 4 separate parts, and then glue them together and add the audio track. Hence, not much “alignments” between video & audio, sadly enough. There are 2 things though, that I take full blame for:
- I left the “avatar names” hoovering above the avatars. Basically, because I have no clue how to turn that off.
- I forgot to go into “full view without user interface”. Basically, because I forgot the key combination.
Ah well, next one will be better, I promise, especially if I can get my hands on a SpaceNavigator mouse thingie. ;) In the mean while, I do like the covers I did for Foolish’ “Sweet Home on the Mainland” and “Linden’s Lament” song. Rezzable just launched !!!Real Life!!! “Slashmeloves Prim” tshirts, awaiting mine (*smiles at Lokum*) for my RL posing duties, I decided to do a virtual fashion shoot with.. errr, me, myself, I and the “Slashmelove Prim” accessories. :D Pretty happy with the end result - I look like a natural blonde, no? - it was large enough to do “desktop backgrounds”. This is how it looks on mine:
Yeah, sure I need to clean up a bit. :D If you’d like your very own “/me <3 prim" desktop background featuring Vint, grab them at flickr using the "all sizes". Rezzable can haz OpenSim - A luvstory?

What is Rezzable looking for in an OpenSim? Is OpenSim stable enough for long-term commitment? What are the expectations? And what are the turn-offs? Can those flaws be overlooked or turned for the better? Sure they can, just look at those hawt specs! In short: Is there a love story evolving here? ;) ‘In longer‘: First and Second Impressions involving the Rezzable Private Grid Alpha & OpenSim in general as written by RightasRain “boss” Rimbaud.
Vint’s summary: “Woot! Terribly thrilled!” So thrilled even, I’m going into ‘nostalgic mode’ and used my old “OpenSim News” graphic. Which is terribly-outdated as I look pretty on OpenSim now. :D You ask for more nostalgia?! K. Here you go… . (Rembember: On the PGA, I’m better looking! ;))

Winterfaire - Virtual Christmas at Greenies

No wonder if you see the work creative geniuses Pavig Lok, Littletoe Bartlett and My Mackenzie have put into making sure the sim is ready for a ‘cosy virtual christmas’. Giant Mistletoe, pretty socks, a lovely xmas tree, lots of gifts, gingerbread men, … . And the tons of “stuff to do’s” that are planned by Miss Angelina Rhode! Christmas and Holiday Parties!
On top of the normal menu, there are 2 giant parties planned:
- Saturday, December 20th, between 12 noon and 2 pm SLT: Help us decorate for the upcoming holidays. Pavig and LittleToe will be on hand to put up some merry swag and help you put up some of your own ornaments. DJ Sarlah Maggs will be providing the music to get everyone in the mood.
- Monday, December 22, 12 noon to 3 pm SLT: there will be a big party on the Greenies kitchen table from, hosted by Angelina Rhode with DJ Krakov Letov. Winners of the Greenies Virtual Holiday Decoration Contest will be announced and fabulous prizes handed out.

That’s easy, just search for ‘Greenies Home’ on your Second Life Map, or follow this teleport. Not sure what to wear? May I do a suggestion? ;)

Rezzable’s Private Grid, come keep me company?
December 12, 2008 4:23 amOne of the things I’ve been up to lately is help organise the planned ’stress test party’ for Rezzable’s Private Grid. The theme is ‘Find the 7 differences’. Of course, there are more than just seven. Those who are following up on OpenSim know it’s still under heavy construction, with daily bugs being patched, new features added and new possibilities created. Sometimes it seems they proceed 10 times as fast as Lindens do. Partly, this is because of an obvious reason, OpenSim is after all based on the ‘Second Life’ concept by Linden Lab. They do not need to think out everything from scratch. Although they often give it a different spin, if you look at the load balancing for example. But the other 2 reasons are the most compelling ones: OpenSim is less hindered by ‘corporate strategic business decisions dependencies’. (The official LL blog was moved to my ‘to depressing to read’ folder in the feedreader.) Or by ‘one size needs to fit all’. Opposed to using ‘The Second Life Grid’ (where did my trademark symbol go?) where you are depended on the limited estate management options given by LL, on OpenSim - if you have the needed knowledge - your ‘virtual land’ is actually really yours, as you own - or at least rent which gives you full decision powers too - the servers it runs on. Take a ’snapshot’ of a full sim and save it for later use? Possibile on OpenSim. Allow people to choose from ‘avatar templates’ on the web and make them pretty with the items you - and even more important, they! - desire? Possible on OpenSim. Those who know me, probably realise I’m delighted to have a good reason to keep more than 1/4th an eye on OpenSim again! But err.. I’m drifting off… back to the Rezzable Case Files! ;)
For Rezzable the above means that the ‘Private Grid’ is tied in to Rezzable.com. *Tips her hat at the whole dev crew, including Miss Malaprop* We know for certain that your Second Life ‘you’ is your Rezzable.com account - if you have verified your avatar that is - and thus will automatically annotate you your avatar name. No need for yet another identity, is there? And more important, nobody can ’steal’ your identity. There are for me tons of things to experiment with still, and tons of things to learn. But I’ll get the basics down eventually, I assume. An example of ‘things still to learn’ is how to use Second Inventory. So I can port neat things over, like this dragon, shot at Greenies ‘Second’ Home:
Of course, for that I would need to have such a full perm dragon full perm in my inventory. Which is not the case. But I am allowed to dream, no? ;) Another issue is though, that I’m not much of an einzelgänger. So testing an all that is only fun, when they are other folks around to test with. I’m no use testing ‘building’ or ’scripting’ on my own, because well.. I suck at it. (Ok, ok, and I’m pretty high maintenance as it comes to attention! :D) I need other avatars around there to test things with, people who know more about the ‘building’ and ’scripting’ part than I do, who can then report tell me about their issues and ideas and hopes and dreams. (You can leave the NSFW dreams out, kthxbye!) When lonely, I do futile attempts to sit myself on a virtual can of beer:

Oh, and attend our Stress Test Parties on December 17th & 18th starting 1PM SLT. Your testing efforts and pleasant company would be much appreciated, and not only by me. Nobody benefits from me becoming a virtual drunk when virtual beers can be endlessly replicated, right? ;)
