‘… Finally, and due to a technical problem - of Linden Lab - during the count, the votes were lost without possibility of recovering them, reason why the result of the process was the one that already has commented. In any case, the reading of the note in cursiva in both letters is interesting: “This is a satire - what it means that is fictitious, not “a real” election. Has treated, then, of an experiment - of political shade, without a doubt - in “real time” within the virtual world? Of to have been thus: Directed by whom? Linden Lab? To analyze the behavior/interest of the residents in the self-government, its political tendencies… or is a previous test to possible elections in SL?‘

Is what I read when <strike>I</strike> Google Translate translated this document Dolmere pointed me to to English. Lokikn Allen, the author of ‘el metaverso político’, promised in Dolmere’s comments to translate the article in English. Although if I’m not mistaken, he says he makes that promis as a politician, so… :p

But a few things:

This was not an actual political experiment, and no way Linden Labs was involved in this. It’s just something Myg & Alex, Wrath, I and some others came up with. We showed some ‘worst case’ scenario’s for Second Life’s future and some real good utopia ones. And we have proven that a lot of Residents do have ideas about Second Life’s future and do wish to be involved in one way or another, besides just being treathed as ‘targets for RL corporations’.

The votes did not ‘really’ get lost. There was no voting held as there is no way for us to detrone Governor Philip Linden. We were rather sure that at that moment in time - and maybe even now, who knows - by our readers public, he would not have been reelected. As inventory loss was one of the huge grid problems we were facing at that moment in time, it was the best way to solve the problem to give him another term as Governor of Second Life. As we clearly stated: this is satire, SL political role playing.

I had a lot of fun being ‘Candidate Vint Falken’. *grins* Eventhough Candidate Vint Falken was roleplaying too and there was a lot of satire in my campaign, I did get to ‘tackle’ one issue that I’m really worried about. And response was positive and showed that I was not the only one worrying.

I still want to see that machinima someday, Wrath. ;) *even bigger grin*

Dear Residents,

Thanks for participating in the 2007 SLelections for Governor. Before we announce the winner and the new Governor of Second Life, we would like to thank all the residents who participated in this SLelection. Your candidacies were strong, your platforms inspiring, and your campaign posters excellent! You have shown us many excellent paths for Second Life’s future.

However, we had some minor problems with returning the SLelections 2007 voting boxes into our inventory. They were, um, lost. Luckily upon contacting Live Help, the Lindens were able to tell us the following:

“We were pleased to see all the Residents participating in the democratization of Second Life. After discarding the votes of the residents that are not registered with our Identity Verification System, it is clear that the community wishes to re-elect Philip Linden Governor of Second Life. We are very happy with that, as this means we can keep our current jobs in the Linden Administration. Thank you for voting.”

Congratulation to Phil on his reelection. Please note that any protests of election results will be considered broadly offensive and offenders will be Abuse Reported. The SLGOP’s campaign poster with the tag line ‘Own your own clarity’ states: It’s RL Lawyers - like Jack Thompson - and RL politicians that pose the greatest threat to our way of life… because their lawsuits and ill-conceived laws could virtually DESTROY Second Life as we know it! As you Governor, Erbo Evans will be committed to defending and protecting SL against the threats - NOT using them as an excuse to limit Resident free expression, or grab more power for the government! The Grid Democracy Party acknowledges the importance of this issue, especially now the rumours go that the present Linden Administration considers country based filtering systems. Yet a few pages further <strike>on his blog</strike> in his campaign folder Candidate Evans’ campaign manager Danielle Ferguson threatens to orbit all who do not vote for Erbo. The Grid Democracy Party here wishes to make the following statement: when in office we shall take a very thorough look at all AR’s filed against Danielle Ferguson, her staff and and Erbo Evans conserning orbiting residents and we shall react appropriate. Of course, AR’s for murdering prim babies, stealing from innocent residents and broadly offensive behaviour shall be ignored. A campaign switch that was started - or so she claims - by Candidate Flintoff with the key sentences: ‘Tyffany Flintoff will be Your Governess. Vote for her on 1 July or your (Second) Life will be over.‘ Candiate Flintoff says Mr. Evans stole her campaign ideas: ‘The Flintoff campaign does not have to turn to staff members to provide an attractive model for their posters; it’s clear that my earlier comments to Mr Evans surrounding his attire have struck home and he now realises that “latex sells”; Ms Ferguson is clearly one hot item and should she wish to jump ship to the winning team she knows where to call; the subtle and understated use of weaponry in these posters is surely too similar to be coincidental; and the gentle reminder that bad things happen to those who vote poorly has been a feature of the Flintoff campaign since day one.’

A new candidate - stepping up close to the end of the SLelections race - is Nuschi Martynov. Speaking German as mother tongue, he must have thought ‘Hey, as Arnold can do this, so can I!’. On his platform he addresses the german immigrants and bus passengers in Second Life, saying that he supports the other candidates’ - and we assume that’s mainly Candidate Falken’s - demands, but not the candates themselves. He starts his campaign with the demand for the right to be late in Second Life. And witht he promis that if you vote for him Second Life will be slower. We think he should clarify on what would be slower: the bug fixes, the implementation of the new verification system or the folluw up of AR’s and help requests? Yet, as it comes to candidates with cute german accents, the Grid Democracy Party still prefers Candidate Volare.

Update: Candidate Martynov clarified his ‘for the Right to be Late!’ platform: ‘The Right to be Late has to be an avatarian fundamental right. Slowness must be part of the basic SL system. Occasional lag is not enough! Delayed TP’s and Logins cannot happen just now and then! This is our first Election Poster. Vote for Nuschi Martynov! For the discovery of more and better slowness in SL!’

The shocking document she laid hands upon is a referendum that those insane minds created for once Wei would be Governor of Second Life. We quote:

Dear Resident,

We have recently noticed increased safety concerns among residents (this means you). In order to make your meta-life more pleasant, we believe work on lag, inventory loss and technical problems should be postponed in order to address this urgent issue.

Our statements should be understood to constitute an implied meta-Patriot Act, to be immediately followed with the installation of one new class 5 island simulator and one class 3 island simulator to include the following facilities to ensure your safety: sim PremiumPrison, sim FurryCrawl and sim UnveriPrison.

Under the provisions of this referendum, PremiumPrison and FurryCrawl will be outsourced to private companies. Imprisoned residents’ weekly stipends will be confiscated in payment for their safety services.

An exception to Community Standards will be made for those two companies to give them the necessary tools to ensure your safety.

The incarcerated shall work to create full-permissions content to prove their value as residents. Content will become the sole property of PremiumPrison and FurryCrawl. By purchasing this content, you will be contributing to your safety in Second Life.

UnveriPrison will be operated similarly and will house any avatar refusing to verify payment and identity information. We still intend to allow unverified registration to boost user numbers. The influx of a large number of second-class residents provides us with heretofore untapped sources of revenue through forced labor for the crime of refusing to verify.

We also realize that re-education will not be suitable for certain residents. For those residents, a declaration of unsuitability will be made and avatarship immediately revoked, to be followed without ceremony by a meta-death sentence. The concerned resident and all alts will, after a public stoning, be permanently removed from the grid for all times and the inventory and land will auctioned by us, except for the good bits which we’ll keep for ourselves.

We are sure by applying these rules we can make Second Life safe, together.

As we do care about the community’s opinion, somewhere in the upcoming week we shall, for a short time, offer you the possibility to teleport to Referendum Island and agree to the following referendum:

How heavily should the following crimes against safety be punished?

Now just look at the original document for the questions! Those people behind Wei08 must be out of their minds!!! Residents, think of your Freedom, not your Safety! Do not support their War on Danger and do not vote for Romana Wei on the 1st of July! Vote Vint Falken instead.

She is the first to address the issues concerning resident Ruth: ‘Put Ruth in quarantine until it is proven that she is not contagious anymore.‘ At the Grid Democracy Party’s HQ we think that’s a great plan of action to stop the Ruthed decease, so we are considering giving Kaminski a place in the Falken Administration. Another brilliant idea - that of course candidate Falken thought of first, but forgot to formulate - is one to make sure the Lindens do their job properly: ‘A Linden (preferably the cutest one) will be held (hostage) in protective custody on the premises of our New Palace until his brothers in crime complete this task.‘ As we also like candidate Kaminski’s idea about restricting camping chairs to limited places and with a minimum pay out of L$50/10mins and the idea that Andromega Volare will be put in the same cell (or in permanent orbit; depending feasibility), together with Ruth, until he learns to stay with the same girl for more then 5 seconds, Véronique Kaminsky can consider herself hired once we are in Office. =d

Next new candiate is Khamudy Mannonen, also known as the Second Life weather anchor: ‘In the Spring Period, the Metaverse was hedged by enemies and plunged into chaos. Greedy officials retreated into hiding, natural disasters rocked the land and the people suffered. Finally so many stranded and disaffected people rose and demanded change. The Metaverse was shocked, the court packed, Emperor Philip-Di listened and did nothing.‘ Although he thinks the title of ‘Governor’ does not suffice and is in the running for that of ‘Emperor’, his platform contains a few interesting ideas such as bling taxation to fund grid stability work, land reform, severe and effective punishment for criminals. Candidate Mannonen is also expresses his concern about the grid’s economy and has a solid plan for it’s future: ‘The new reign will be marked by a new census to accurately show the actual active population of the realm - allowing businesses and content creators better idea of the operating scale of SL.’

Candidate Samantha Pointdexter wonders if there are candidates interested in holding an open debate between the candidates (or some of the candiates) on SLelectins, SLpolitics and SLfuture. If interested, let your PR department contact hers.

The wannabe tyrans:

Erbo Evans from SLGOP who in his radio spot promises that ‘you’ll have clear, easy-to-follow content guidelines–so you won’t need to worry about breaking rules you don’t know about‘. Yet, same as our current Linden Administration, he fails to mention what that content might be.

Romana Wei: the Wei08 campaign is all about scaring the <strike>hell</strike> wireframe out of you, the residents. We know the rumour goes candidate Falken has <strike>sle…</strike> massaged Romana’s campaign manager, but you can believe us when we say she did this all for you, dear residents. Wei08 only released this picture foolishly thinking that the residents could be distracted from the striking evidence the Grid Democracy Party shall release about Romana Wei’s plans for ‘Fighting Danger’. We trust you shall not fall for this pityful attempt at discrediting Miss Falken and we promise to unmask WEI08’s dark plans for our cherished grid’s democracy as soon as our safety adivsor has finished analysing them.

Ask your human counterpart if he or she remembers seeying all those books in the library they could not take home because he or she was not ‘mature’ enough? Or the books safely hidding in dark dungeons of oblivion because ‘they’ say ‘nobody is interested in them anyway’? Voting for a librarian would not only be a non-vote, it would also be a vote for changing the Dewey classification system and label 000-900 as ‘broadly offensive’ content.

As we speak the Grid Democracy Party’s lawyers are taking a better look at the ‘democracy is insane’ slogan, to see if we could sue them as we are sure that sexy vixen is trying to insult the Grid Democracy Party.
