Virtually flawless & selling? Thx but no thx?
October 21, 2007 7:34 am
Hello Vint :) I saw your outfits at Ana Lutetia’s blog and I fell in love with your winter outfit. I just noticed that the ads in your store don’t really appeal to the customers. If it wasn’t for Ana Lutetia’s modeling I wouldn’t have considered buying it. What I suggest is to get some better modeling, poses and such. I can model for you if you want or a photoshooting studios could help you with your ads :) anyways, great stuff
Lyanis Lin, who wrote this, does has a good point. Sales went _seriously_ up ever since Ana Lutetia modelled my winter & autumn outfit and included an SLurl to my shop at Mardes. (Thank you, Miss Lutetia! ;)) Yet…
I can do beautiful models, if anybody would doubt that, just look at some of the avatars that are featured in my Flickr stream. I can also do sexy poses, appealing looks and the Princess Dream. Yet again, I refer you to my Flickr stream. But also, I’m not doing that very often any more lately. I’ll do retouching when needed, when asked or when feeling like it.
But as for the promo signs for my outfits, what’s wrong with having an avatar with mediocre looks and pose? Why do we all need to all be super sexy and have an appearance that starts with a capital A? Why does it need to look commercially branded to perfection?
I appreciate the avatars that are just mediocre. That have a bit of a belly. Or are extremely short or high. Or have tentacles. And claws. That lack - extreme - muscularity. That are just cute and not extremely hansom. It’s my Second Life after all, no? The Brave New Virtual world that I inhabit and help to imagine, create and not own anymore?
This is supposed to be my dream world, and I’d like it to be a dream world where not everybody needs to be perfect. Where not all needs to be shiny and heavily retouched. Where there is room for flaws. Even if those flaws are just copies of our RL flaws.
Am I wrong here? Should all be perfect except for the failures/limits that are inherent to Second Life? Should I ‘adjust’ and make one line of ad signs for the stuff that have a house style VintLabs look and that are shiny, modern and extremely appealing? And if I do so, then what exactly makes my Second Life differ from my First Life?
One confused Vint
This also reminds me of the ads I shot for Nicky Ree’s wedding gown. I still like them - a lot - but it probably wasn’t what she expected to see neither.

Are you nuts? VintLab’s autumn outfit.
October 20, 2007 4:39 am
Called a halloween outfit by Prok, looking good on Ana Lutetia, not sexy enough for Juliet Ceres, sexy enough for Veyron Supercharge and approved by Spinneke Jewel: VintLab’s ‘Are you nuts?!‘ autumn outfit.
Why the ‘Are you nuts’ name?
- It’s something I’ve heard rather often. =d
- Oak tree pattern -> Acorn -> Nuts
It contains?
A highly detailed strapless top and an oak tree patterned sweater, nifty gloves, a daring pair of stockings for when you want to ‘be seen’ and a ‘boring’ - but still classy - pair of stockings too, two lengts of prim skirt - for when you need to be decent and for when you need to be sexy and two versions of the pants, so you can wear it as a dress as well as an outfit with skirt or pants.
Permanent Sales?
As usual, 50% off is given to the people that are listed in my ‘exclusive vendor thingie’ on Shop.OnRez, so if you want to save 150L$, say ‘hi, me wants to pay less’ (comments, e-mail, IM, …), and I’ll add you to the vendor*. That way you will see the sales item listed under ‘exclusive’ on your OnRez homepage. But I won’t protest if you prefer to pay 250L$.
(*Disclaimer: Avatars added to that vendor will be more likely to be approached by me to serve as guinea pigs. I don’t approve animal testing, but I do appreciate feedback on the outfits. So hence I need to use avatars for that. ;))
Reviews? W00t!
She has also some cute costumes. VintLabs is a name you shouldn’t forget… (Ana Lutetia - fashion blogger)
I know you don’t want to make super sexy stuff but this is a bit over the top. (Juliet Ceres - fashion creator) (*grins about the selective highlighting*)
Sexy enough for me to wear in public. :) (Veyron Supercharge - Femme Fatale role model and SL Blogger)
I love the design and I’m pretty sure they’ll be quite a success amongst your customers. They look very detailed and manufactured with the quality you are known for Vint. Looking forward to hearing more from you :-) (Spinneke Jewel - famous Belgian avie)
Where to buy?
Both the mod/copy and mod/trans version of the ‘Are you nuts?’ autumn outfit are available on Shop.OnRez. If you prefer in-world shopping, I suggest you drop by at my skybox, my little shop at Mardes or use the MetaMart HUD.
PS. Project ‘Dress Vint’s Human’
The - by now infamous ;) - Leopard Print Top by Mexx has arrived in the Netherlands in healthy condition. Rose Rothlisberger reported it is now sold out, so I’m sure Wuf and my human will have the last two copies. May it safely and ‘un-wrinklingly’ continue it’s trip to Belgium! ;)

VintLabs’ Winter Outfit: Fluffy, cosy & cheap
October 2, 2007 5:16 pm
Now First Life temperatures are getting more chilly, I’m not planning on getting Second Life pneumonia*.
So I wave goodbye to the silks and bikini’s for a few months and I will go with wool, fur and all else that is soft, fluffy and warm.
The ‘Winter Outfit’ contains:
- Blue cosy sweater (jacket and shirt layer) + prim pipes (starry and non-starry version)
- Retro top (jacket and shirt layer) + prim sleeves (oh so cute!)
- Warm pants (normal and sweater version)
- Winter gloves with cut off fingers
Both ‘aboves’ being on different layers and the two styles of pants - one with the sweater texture and one without - makes that you can mix and match this outfit by wearing the retro top on top or easily combine parts of the Winter Outfit with clothing items you already have in your inventory.
As I’m tired of guessing if people want mod/copy or mod/trans, I’ve decided to do both. Get the mod/copy version here on OnRez and the mod/trans version here. Both outfits are also available using MetaMart - if you do not have a MetaMart HUD yet, you can fetch one in my skybox - and at my skybox and shop at Mardes. The price is a constant: 200 L$. (Yes, that is correct: NOT on SLexchange anymore.)
You prefer paying only 100L$ in stead of 200L$ for a highly detailed Winter Outfit? That’s now possible. =) I’ve created a ‘private dropbox’ on Onrez, that contains 10 times the mod/copy version and 10 times the mod/trans version of this warm Winter Outfit for only 100 Linden Dollars. I want to the ‘known customers’ dropbox to give people I know / read this blog a chance to buy this winter ensemble - and any upcoming clothing releases - even more cheap. The only danger of getting on that ‘known customers dropbox list’ is that I might bug you to take a look at a clothing item prior to release and ask if you have any feedback. If interested in paying less, IM me your avatar name or drop me an email at ‘vint at vintfalken dot com’ ‘info at vintfalken dot com’ (oops). I’ll then add you to the avatars that are allowed to buy from this OnRez dropbox. It’s a limited edition of 20 in total, so huwwy wup. ;)
* Yeah, I know, we don’t depend on RL weather in SL. But I’m getting tired of all those ’sexy’ outfits. I want to dress warm.. or fluffy… or pink.. or subordinate… or hobo… or dreamy… or… whatever. As long as it’s not just - plain - sexy.
(Smiley, want this outfit as a freebie for the teen grid? Then let me know. ;))

VintFalken.com - Celebrating 2k comments
September 8, 2007 5:31 amI was one happy Second Life blogger when on August 21 2007 VintFalken.com reached 2000 comments when Shockwave Plasma hit the ’submit’ button on this post, pondering her return to Pownce. As I do not reach 2k comments each day - or week, or month as a matter of fact - it was worth doing something extra for this:
Now, originally this is a rather big file, so I do want to give Shockwave a real life print - if she is interested in having one, that is. But: this one is on me (on my google adsence revenue, actually ;)) and I don’t want her to feel obliged to give out her RL address / data to me. So I’m looking for:
- A good online photograph printing service
- that allows to give out gift certificates by e-mail or code number for an amount I choose
- and allows Shockwave to use that gift certificate for a photograph I upload
- and delivers to that part of Earth where Shockwave Plasma’s owner resides.
Suggestions, anybody? (Or any other solution, of course.)
PS. Next celebration of important milestone in my Second Web Life is 50k views - 44,778 as I type - on the Flickr stream. Codie is waiting for me to reach that as she promised me we’d celebrate ‘50k’ together in ‘Par Tay’ style. =)

Nipplegate activism clothing (freebie)
August 31, 2007 7:29 amWell, after this post I did some thinking: I do really want to go Burning Life. But how to do that when I can not walk around with nipples in the PG areas. So I removed them from my breasts completely. It was a bit painfull, and I’m not sure it’s healing well, but at least I won’t offend anybody at Burning Life. *grins*
The whole package is copy, trans and the tat’s are full mod and you can fetch it from SLexchange for free or from somebody who has already gotten it from me in-world (Laetizia, Dandellion, …). There’s one standing at the entrance of my skybox too. Have fun! ;)

Pfieew, almost finished for SL4B
June 21, 2007 7:38 am
Ok, still doing some ‘fine tuning’ although it’s way past deadline, but who cares? Nobody responded to my ‘may we still build?’ question, so I guess it’s ok. *grins* This is how it sort of looks right now (of course with some shallow DoF added and some PS to make up for the lack of WindLight). I’m not really that happy with the build, as compared to the other boots/plots there it looks so damned artificial. I started building this with the WindLight client open and in the back of my mind so the reflections were really neat. Now, well they are just shiny. And I assume nobody will be as stupid as to take the depreciated WindLight Firstlook unto what will hopefully be a full sim. *sobs*
What I do like about the whole Second Life 4th Birthday art expositioning thingie is that the cooperation with Myg & Alex was awesome. As we have neighbouring plots, it was easy to just pay a visit or ask the other ones to come over for some help. With positioning my ‘broadly offended poseballs’ for instance. And did I already mention Myg allowed me to paint on her back wall?
Yes, you hear that correctly, if you are broadly offended by any of my work, you will now be able to show that. At the moment there’s only one close to The Irony of our Second Life’s comics - doesn’t Myg look awefully cute when broadly offended? - , but I’ll place some other ones so you can also be broadly offended by my portrets, SLelection campaign or Photoshop work.
And also Olivia Arteer and Dancoyote Antonelli seem to be friendly and cooperative neighbours. Yey! for them too. ;)
Something I also wonder about is the need for every SL4B artist to build that high. I figured it would be nice if it was easy to scout the sim by flying, so I maxed my build at 4 meters. Yet 20 to 30 meters is not an exception and that makes flying with low draw distance on - which will be probably necessary to prevent crashing - a pain. I already flew lost twice, needing to TP back to my plot and start all over.
I’m also doubting if I should put older photographs in the FlickrViewer set - the photographs in that set are the ones that display at SL4B - or that I should just put only SL4B related ones in it and add to the set as I have new ones. Anybody wants to toss a coin for me?
Still to do: broadly offensive content-texture, signs towards Arteer’s and Myg’s plots (+textures), texture for the blank wall I, texture for the blank wall II, put out more broadly offended pose balls and I’m not very happy about how the FlickrViewer boot looks.

Vanny and Lisa exported to RL (in photoprint)
June 19, 2007 1:44 pmA while ago I metioned - rather proudly - that Vanny and Lisa would also look fine on print. Now behold:
Put on my laptop for size comparison. It’s 30cm by 20cm (12 by 8 inches). *grins*
You can still vote for my picture here, just choose ‘foto 4 : SL Attitude - Vint Falken’. Ty! ;)

The Irony: Playboy launches in Second Life
June 13, 2007 7:06 amFlickr set with the other photographs of the launch of the Playboy mansion.
What I recall:
- [Lag] ² (Was to be expected.)
- Full sim.
- Neat Playboy logo shaped cushions. (Not for sale! *sobs*)
- Hot lady avatars. (Not necessarily the bunnies.)
- Only two Playboy bunnies to be seen.
- Expensive clothing. (But I have a pink Playboy tshirt. *grins*)
- Fun elevators.
- SLJoe is an ass.
- No Hugh Hefner avie.

Thy vote, pretty please?
2:33 am
A while ago I called out for Belgian participants for a Second Life photography contest. The submitted photographs are now on display at the New Mardes Club (SLURL) (take the stairs to go upstairs) and the snapshot contest has now reached ‘voting phase’ at the secondlifecrew.be website. Some of my fellow Belgian avies participating are Bella March, Loki Popinjay, Looker Lumet and Mylena Aquitane. Yet I humbly (euhm… well.. sort of humble) ask for your vote for ‘SL Attitude’ - Vint Falken here. Why?
- The photograph I’ve sumitted ‘SL attitude’ (aka Mona Lisa Vanity) really does kick meta-ass. Vanny & Lisa look awefully great in it (they do always look great, but anyway…) and if you want to have a look at the photograph look beyond what is reasonable possible for display in Second Life, there is still the A4 version showing all of the details (2.6MB warning).
- First price is an iPod Nano (the contest is sponsored by vacature.com) and as Zoe pointed out to me, winning that would mean I could actually listen to podcasts without having to drag the laptop along. And then I can throw out the portable audio casette player too. *grins*
So where do you vote? At secondlifecrew.be. Who do you vote for? Me! (If at the voting page you scroll down a bit, you can see square previews of the participating photographs, and if there’s something you really really like more then ‘SL Attitude’ do vote for that one. I think I’ll forgive you. Eventually. ;))
And for the people saying ‘huh?’ and ‘can SL do such detailed snapshots?’ I’ve explained so before, but a little recap:
- File > Take Snapshot or Ctrl+Shift+S
- Save snapshot to hard drive
- What size image do you need? => custom
- Width: 3600 Height: 2400 (or 2400×3600, duh! 3600×3600 still works for me too)
- Take +- 10 snapshots at that size, then crash. To prevent this from happening earlier, make sure you turn ‘auto-snapshot’ off!
