Fiat in Second Life

February 13, 2008 7:34 pm

As I’m still not sure what’s happening to Motorati - links with more info appreciated! - and just to be sure, I thought it became time to look for another car brand to honor with me being a - Second Life - fan of them. I decided to go with the Fiat because of their marvelous sim. Why?

  • Fiat has a nifty, working Second Life car assembly line. (see video below)
  • The sim offers a nice time exploring all the cute Fiat employees. I still did not find the one cutting up the tires that Nock show in her Flickr account.
  • Humor! Yeey! Or do you think cutting up car tires like you do sausages as not funny?
  • Did I mention Fiat’s incredibly cute Second Life employees already?

Anybody knows which SL developing company build the Fiat sims?

Cool… While I always like to see more cool stuff, Fiat at least in the States does not have a very good brand reputation. It’s somewhere above a Trablant and a Yugo but below a Renault. Which is not saying much.

Not to say they make bad cars now, but…. I hear the word Fiat and right away I see in my mind oil splattering out of the engine on to the windshield….

Hun, don’t you mean Trabant? (Never thought I’d ever correct you on something automobile related! *grins*) Never heard of a Yugo, though. Not even sure we have those on the Belgian market.

My whole family sticks with Renault & Citroën, I went Mazda, but honestly never heard something bad, or the usual car jokes about Fiat. On the other hand, I don’t think I know anybody that owns one. *thinks harder* Volkswagen, Saab, Renaul, Citroën, *strange Azian brand I always forget the name off*, Alfa Romeo, … Nope, no Fiat. Maybe that has it’s reasons, I don’t know. =d

But in SL oil splattering out the engine is not going to happen (really, we could us some decent liquids in the SL engine!!) so the sim stays impressive! ;)

Hmpf! With more than a few drop of Italian blood I cannot resist to comment on this. I once drove a Fiat don’t remember which model sports car and it would outrun my neighbours Ford Mustang (most probably a castrated one).

So, imho, nothing wrong with Fiat.

Thank you :)

Yeah, I thought I had Trabant spelled right…. ::sigh:: Looks like Yugo’s were called other things in Europe. Zastava Koral?

Nope, not really familiar, and the dutch wiki article on this does not mention anything familiar either. The bombing of the factory by the NAVO is a sweet little interesting detail, though. It can’t be that their cars were that bad, no? :d

I recall some anecdote where a BMW (Audi?) US dealer was giving away a free Yugo with each car sold. Lots of people turned down the Yugo….

Strange. Is that Yugo give away not an urban legend? I would assume it has some value in it, in the weight of it’s metals? ;)

I know what they’re talking about, I basically grew up with them being all around and stinking. The smell is really the worst thing, otherwise I think they’re cute :)

FIAT = “Fix It Again, Tony!” :-)

Héhé. We have those in Dutch too for almost every car brand imaginable. Even BMW, Mercedes, … .

The one for FIAT is funny though:
Fiasco In Auto-Techniek

(I think that does not need a translation to English, it’s rather obvious?)

As for the Fiat sims, pity thats the old Punto, the new one is much sexier…

LMAO. Although I’m a fan now, I still would not call FIAT cars sexy. :D

Regarding motorati - Pontiac generously donated the sims to United Spinal Association, which has renamed them Motorability and will continue the same focus on cars with a new slant on adaptive motorsports and accessibility for people with spinal cord injuries or diseases.
