Free full perm female skin textures

December 28, 2007 10:50 pm

From the Amondeu Artisans Guild group notices, which I love:

Free Female Skins with Full Perms
Fri Dec 28 12:02:50 2007

Artisans these skins are provided as separate textures and can be used to gain knowledge AND to help the new. Double threat :) If you have an interest in skin making or know any broke avies, don’t miss these designs by the great and generous maker Eloh Eliot. Deck the halls with good looking avatars!

Landmark to Another Shop at Libbert was included, needless to say, this whole post is about charing these coordinates with you. Free skins to be found at : Another shop, Lippert (73, 185, 179)

4 Free skin textures for PS experimenting

These 12 free skin textures (each skin exists out of a head texture, a lower body texture and an upper body texture) are full perm, which means you can export them back to RL to play with them - and learn from that - in Photoshop. The way to do this:

  1. In Second Life, find the texture you want to copy to your hard drive and open the skin texture so that it shows on your screen.
  2. Make sure it’s selected: it should be in front and the frame is dark grey, not transparent.
  3. Go to the File menu and choose ’save texture as’.
  4. … the rest of the process should be familiar. ;)

These kind of notices - always interesting, always surprising, never expensive - is why this is a group I’d _never_ voluntarily leave. Hail to the leader Kilnara Balnarring! ;)

Update:

This just gets better & better. Eloh Eliot has made the original .psd files of the skin textures available:

  1. Fe skin texture - pds file
  2. Le skin texture - pds file
  3. Re skin texture - pds file
  4. Se skin texture - pds file
  5. Lfº skin texture - psd file
  6. Cfº skin texture - psd file
  7. Lfºy skin texture - psd file (male skin version!)
  8. Ffº skin texture - psd file

Keep in mind that Eloh Eliot asks that the ‘derivatives’ of these files, are freely shared too! More information on the BSD license and what restrictions Miss Eliot kindly asks for can be found here.

Hurrah! They look pretty awesome too, really great for the newbies here :-). I don’t have any land currently, as I don’t access Second Life regularly anymore due to networking issues, but i’ll have my (too-)Israeli friend publish ‘em on his land, along with the DuoGrid logo.* You should try and talk to Linden about placing those in OIs, they’re really out-of-the-ordinary, and they’re full-perm! Though people (mostly newbies) will try and sell these…

P.S.: I’ll get right on to publishing the information page online at DuoGrid.com , and i’ll email the creator to send me the textures — I think web publishing is OK too, right? DIYs are recommended to be used instead of going to a scripted box inworld, as perms are on your side :-).

* That’s the meaning of it — though I should look into talking with Linden about how it would continue after I turn 18. It should go off without a hitch, as there’s the site, and I plan to work as a Liaison from Israel from the day I turn 18 ’till the time I have to go serve in the army. Wow, this was a long footnote!

Why do the skins have security lines if their suppose to be full permission?

Because now you have to do at least _some_ effort, if you want to have quick gain from somebody else’s work? :D

These are a fantastic gift to the community and unlike most PSDs I’ve come across, the layer names actually mean something.

Unbelievably good!

@Fallon: Those ’security lines’ are guides Eloh Eliot used to line up the seams. Just turn the visibility off if they bother you.

Fallon, just go to the VIEW menu and uncheck the EXTRAS option.

Working with PSP 7 I am running into a peculiar problem - the upper and lower body images work perfectly - but none of the face images will open in psp 7 - anyone got an explanation (all I know is that I know nothing)

I once had this problem with skin files for Morrowind, 7 out of 8 opened fine, but the last had a layer blending effect that was unsupported by PSP, once that was set to something safe like ’soft light’ or ‘overlay’ it opened up fine in PSP.

I assume this is something similar.

*mumbles about fancy pants adobe blending effects*

I think I need to second Regan here. PSD after all is photoshop’s proprietary format. Did you try with GIMP already?

What’s used (blending modes):
Lighten, Pass Through, Color, … and of course an alpha channel too.

Hi again :)

Thanks for your responses - and yes probably the problem is format - although the upper and lower body images opened just fine - I suppose the facial images must have some extra feature that the other two don’t.

I downloaded GIMP and the tools needed to run it in a windows environment - but am still a bit away from making it work - oh well - live and learn.

If anyone feel compelled to either make the images available in Paint shop pro format - or create a version of the facial psd-images without the extra feature (what ever it is) and make those available I would very much appreciate it :)

Hi - me again - still no luck with opening those face textures in PSP

Being the PSP fan that I am I updated to PSP XI - but the problem persists - so there’s “something photoshoppy” in the face textures that’s incompatible with PSP even in the late releases

Downloaded a photoshop trial and worked with them there - and managed to make a skin I’m super happy withwich - now of course I would love to do more - but trials run out *pouts*

I guess I’ll just have to wait till the next Photoshop release and a new trial :-)

@neo4k9 : i had the same problem too when i saved the file in jpg and upload .. anyway it was solved when i saved it in targa- format ..

Aha, of course, as a jpg can’t do alpha channels and the eyelashes need alpha channels (know what is transparent) to work! Save as .tga 32bit as 24bit can’t do transparency either, and make sure to check saving the alpha channel too!
