Friendlist SLetiquette
August 2, 2007 1:46 amVeyron Supercharge wonders about how we treat our friends lists:
- Do we sometimes clean up our friends list?
- If we do so, do we ‘boot’ people out without telling them (and feeling guilty)?
No, besides some ‘Hell, no way that avatar is staying in my friends list’ - reactions, I haven’t cleaned it out yet. I probably would have done that allready ages ago if it was called ‘contacts list’. It’s easier to remove contacts than friends. ;) Maybe I should though. Because to half of the people in my friends list I hardly ever speak. Multiple were friended at events, because I wanted to see when they are online because I had to ask something, to be able to TP them, … .
But why don’t they just let us arrange our friends in groups? ICQ does so. MSN - the horror - does so. Skype allows so. I have several RL address books. And even IRL you use the white pages to keep the normal addresses and the yellow pages to keep the business addresses.
At the same time, you could toggle ‘visibility’, ‘can edit my objects’, … on and off for whole friends list groups. Handy stuff, no?
Is there any JIRA or whatever suggestion for ‘groups in friendlists’ allready made? It would get my vote for sure!
Edit: Found the JIRA issue that’s most close to my idea: Friends Categories by Smiley Barry. Thank you, Miss Lutetia. *votes*
And some wishfull thinking, the groups I would create:
- Friends
- Belgen (Belgians)
- SL Bloggers
- SL Photographers
- Paradise Lost
- Can Script (better than me)
- Can Build (better than me)
- (more) Fashion (style than me)
- Met at *insert event*
- SLidiots
- …

I am with you on that one!
I don’t usually mind being added but I mind if people add me without even saying ‘hello’
And… what if… (just a thought)… we created a JIRA issue on that? I would vote on it.
SLidiots LOL
that would be a large one for me
I really like the idea of having groups, that would be very helpful indeed.
And I’m glad to see “SL Bloggers” on your list, as being in that group might prevent me from ending up in the last one ;)
Tried asking Nicholaz about it…? He has decided recently to diverge from the LL default UI in future releases to fix certain issues…
TheShadow, this is not something Nicholaz could implement, I think. For all avatars to be able to do so, the date of which friend belongs into what group(s) should be stored in the Linden Labs databases? As they also actually store the data of which avies are your friends. Maybe it could be done by saving it on your computer somewhere and calling that information from the client, but I’m very not sure of that (*puts Vint into SLidiots group* ;)) and then you would only have the group settings on that particular computer, not if you log into Second Life from another PC.
Timothy, I’d be sure to also give you a place in the ‘neko males’ group. ;)
Ana, we could yes, but I first wanted to check if that would not be doubling an existing one. I can’t believe nobody proposed this allready! And I’m not that good at ‘working JIRA’, it sort of dislikes me, I think. Anyway, I did not find any conserning ‘groups in client friends list’, but it would be nice if someone could de a second check before we create the JIRA new feature suggestion?
A nice ones (also friends related) I did find whilst searching:
Friends can manage my inventory.
Love the IDEA have you posted the bug report, I’m in for it. I need that.
And i have to many contacts that i would place in the N00b’s group, and a question when you add a contact where to store them when working at clubs I accept most friends requests. And I have to many that i count as friends that I talk way to seldom with….
I don’t know if I want my friends snooping around in my closet… But since the choice would be up to me, that’s fine.
The only thing we can do is to create folders inside the contact list in the inventory.
Anyway, here are my finds in JIRA:
Friends Categories - instead of using multiple normal groups
Add ability to sort Friends list into different categories
Well yes, not a good way to save it… except maybe have it work via Prim and or notecard in inv and nicholaz edition for portability to different PC’s…?
Have to think on it…
[…] - I’ve been talking at large about trimming friend list, since you know that for me, it is a pain to see the notifications of people I don’t talk to anymore logging in and out. In real life some friendships simply decay, but you keep the phone and can meet oddly… but in SL taking somebody out of your friend list, even if you keep their notecard, can be traumatic; if only it was called Contact list, as Vint suggested. […]
Hey Vint,
Thanks for voting to my suggestion! :D Check out sum’ther I suggested ;) .
-Smiles.
I like the idea. Codie I think could use it as I recall.
I don’t think I like the idea of friends being able to manage inventory…. Hmmm, I wonder what skeletons are in there….
*wants to play dress up with veyron’s inventory* =d
“Wants to play dress up with Vint.” :)
Do you mean you want to play ‘dress down’ or actually really dress me? If the latter is the case, I could consider giving you a budget for trans clothes. =d
Hmmm…. This could be an amusing game. Veyron dresses Vint. I would prefer to dress the pre-neko Vint, as neko’s are not as easy to match clothing with. They have their own styles and clothing that goes well with a neko.
I think about 1/3 of my wardrobe is trans-able.
Well, the pre-neko Vint is almost no more. She’s just a vague idea in some avatar’s memories. C’mon, with my b&w skin there are no color matching problems, and if needed I can recolor the spots to whatever you like - and I fancy at that moment. =d
Well pre-neko Vint is on the top of the page and to the right of each one of your comments…. I even bought that shot of you in the mybloglog thumbnail. It’s up at my house. :)
Mmmm…..
Well, the ears and the eyes… B&W skin is tough, but okay. I’ll do “Dress up Vint”. This is going to be fun. :)
You need a ‘budget’? (And will you shop at wallmart, please? ;))
What’s wrong with some nostalgia on my own blog? *grins* But next time I’ll do the long planned makeover on my own blog, before I start on other people’s blogs! ;)
Well, I could lend you clothes that I can transfer. After all, it seems that clothing sizes don’t really matter in SL - how convenient. No hemming or tailoring.
Or we could go SHOPPING! Mmmmm…. Good thing I know inexpensive places to go.
:)
*jumps up and down for the shopping* Stop one: BlackOps? :D
No tailoring?!!!! No copy prim thingies adjustement. Aargh!
[…] I talked myself into playing ‘dress vint’ with Veyron. I know, not a smart thing to do. :p But hey, I’ll probably have to become a grown-up mature […]
