JIRA spotlight - System Texture Skirts Vanishing
April 20, 2008 11:30 amAmongst the JIRA issues that make me *grin* is this practical excuse for not being decently dressed in public: when worn, a system skirt layer, will for numerous avatars just vanish when it’s texture is fully loaded, leaving them in their underwear. It is the virtual edition of the ‘hey, shit, I left for school/work but forgot to put clothes on‘ nightmare.
System skirts are important for an estimated 50% of Second Life outfits - even for males if they wish to wear long coats. No wonder this is a very annoying bug for both fashionistas and fashion creators as well as normal residents and upcoming brides. This shows from the high number of votes to fix this ASAP - 204 already - and the broad range of duplicates, such as there are: ‘Clothing bug - Skirts not showing’, ‘Clothing worn but not visible’ (did someone finally manage to make those glasses after all? ;)), ‘Skirt clothing layer transparent/not showing’, … .
I can *grin* about this one, as I’m personally not infected with the ’system skirt layer does not render’ bug. As far as I know that is: I have been running around in pants, armour or as a cute mechanical kitty the last few weeks. Luckily, this issue is already assinged - WorkingOnIt Linden - and Lindens were able to reproduce this bug. Now let’s hope they can solve this too.
If you want to see this issue fixed - I assume some prefer underwear as dress code - you can vote for this issue at ‘System skirt textures turn invisible on wearing‘ originally created by DBDigital Episilon.

“System skirts” or “texture skirts” are one of the most awful things in SL anyways. In fact I think that both the avatar meshes as well as the clothing meshes would need some serious redoing - but that would mean that *ALL* in-world clothing (and that includes skin) would stop working.
Hmmm. Not sure. They could look at the ‘age’ of the texture UUID, if it is before a certain date, they autoconvert it to the new mesh?
It would be lovely to be able to wear two different socks! :d (And have an extra layer for face tattoos.)
You ARE smart! The extra tattoo layer is on JIRA already - you might want to vote on http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1449
Peter, did someone tell you the opposite? (*looks for her guns in that messy inventory*)
And if you look at the votes on that JIRA issue, you’ll find that I already voted a while ago. ;)
/me sighs “Bear with me, Missus, I’m coming out of a rough ride as you know…”
Oh! I thought this was for wanting to make your skirts dissapear!
I’ll vote on it anyway.
But Vint, anytime you want to make my skirt…oh…nevermind…
I agree with first post, this is merely survival of the fittest.
To note, I’d rather have multiple attaches per point than extra skin layers.
Kailie, you mean that those skirts disappearing now under WindLight, is a forecast of their extinction? Or how should we interpret ’survival of the fittest’ here?
Meaning, ‘if it doesn’t fit, it isn’t fit to survive’ ; )
I had this happening from the time I had the Viewer Required Update pushed onto me. I had just made a skirt and then tried it on and the only thing that would appear was a ring around my waist. Thought at first it was something I was doing wrong.
Recently I have been getting my skirt texture to appear, but then it turns transparent, (I would say about 50%, can still see the design, but also my panties). Also on the bottom of my skirt texture (it is about knees length), my chat window appears as a texture for the rest of the skirt down to my feet.
