Koinup, where Metaverse Citizens meet?

Koinup?
‘Hmmm. Vint, this one has ads too. Sure you like it?’
‘Well, yes. The Koinup logo is cute!’
‘You do not dig this just for the logo, do you?’
‘Nah, it seems like it’s a place where we can meet residents of all different metaverses - Second Life, The Sims, WoW, IMVU, … - and show of your snapshots/photographs/screenshots, machinima’s and other creations. I like the ‘out of boundaries’ thought behind it.’
‘Did you try it out?’
‘Yep, you can find my profile at Koinup here.’ (Let me know if you are on there somewhere too! I already found Bella and Andro found me.)
What Koinup says Koinup is:
Koinup is a social network based on user-generated content. It’s for users who want to share their work with others users. It allows its members to upload their work and it encourages them to review or comment on other members’ work. From a general point of view Koinup is similar to other social networks. But it is also unique, because it focuses only on culture created in virtual environments as games/mmorpg/3dworld.
The mission of Koinup is to allow virtual worlds and metaverse users to share their creations in a suitable place, to get feedback from the community and socialize with other members. Koinup is the ideal place to share your virtual experiences and creativity. It’s the ideal place to share your other identities.
Me like Koinup because…
- It’s inter-metaverse. (Inter-metaversity? Inter-metaversal? Inter-metaversability? I inter-metaverse, you inter-metaverse, …?! :p)
- The Cute logo (Despite the ‘beta’ mentioned.)
- It has a very Flickresque feeling: you can tag yours and other’s photographs/machinimas/… and search on those tags. Enable or disable the possiblity for others to comment on the media you uploaded.
- With the media you upload there’s a ‘use this link to put it on your blog’. So, 1.5gig to host pictures for the bloggers amongst us (without Flickr Pro account).
- The ’skills’ tagging for your account. Because of the tags, looking for a user with certain skills is very easy.
- The ‘storyboard‘ option: if you want to publish a set of pictures binded by words, tutorials, …
- At least they are not yet another site offering ‘get a blog here’ to their members.
- The ‘coolest’ system: users which - correctly - flag a photograph unappropriate shall get ‘cool’ points. I wonder if this will work, but it’s an interesting thought. (Although coolest rank depends on more than just that: site activity, media popularity, … .)
Give us them your Feedback
- Give us the option to - in our profile - add the names of the different avatars we use in the metaverses we inhabit. (If possible, with in-world registration.)
- Search functionability!!!! Make those avatar names searchable. Let’s say I want to search for ‘Vint Falken’ from ‘Second Life’. At the moment, the best way to be found under your avatar’s name is to add that name in the tags to the media you submit.
- Create the possiblity to in the ‘credits’ of the media link to the profile of the people that helped to create this media. Eg. ‘Description’ (Model, Photographer, Director, …) - ‘First name’ ‘Last name’ (’Vint’ ‘Falken’) - ‘World’ (Second Life, WoW, …). So the profiles becomes more browsable and it’s easy to discover the others persons were involved in for instance a machinima project.
- Get rid of the ads that appear directly above the pictures on the following pages: ‘Favorites’, ‘Contacts’ and ‘You are contact of…’. For me they are highly disturbing. *grins*
What’s allowed, what’s not?
- Nude is usually allowed by Koinup Terms of Use.
- Soon we’ll introduce the option that will allow user to set if its work is for a certain audience or not.
- Porn is not allowed.
So, no I just wonder, where do you draw the line between ‘tasteful nude’ and ‘pr0n’?
PS. See, if I like something, I say so too! *grins*

what about NIPSA, unmodifyable filters,…
for our german friends, it might be usefull to know this, before signing up.. :-)
Veronique, I’m asking. ;)
I think Metaverse is already all virtual worlds–or virtual reality in general…SL is part of Metaverse, not the only operator of it. Like the “grid” or the “net” is the internet and all the networks/computers attached. So maybe it would be intra-metaversal…or inter-virtual world? trans-metaverse? Koinup looks cool, but the ads are lame…
Hmm. Grid can’t be all. As we have a ‘main grid’ and a ‘teen grid’. But maybe on the Metaverse you are right:
The term metaverse comes from Neal Stephenson’s 1992 novel Snow Crash, and is now widely used to describe the vision behind current work on fully immersive 3D virtual spaces. These are environments where humans interact (as avatars) with each other (socially and economically) and with software agents in a cyber space, that uses the metaphor of the real world, but without its physical limitations.
Intra-metaverse it is. =)
And answer from the Koinup People:
So, no I just wonder, where do you draw the line between ‘tasteful nude’ and ‘pr0n’?
YOU dont have to wonder about that thin line Vint…
It will be done by the marketing managers of the companies that place adds on Koinup, and by sensation seeking journalists…
We have seen that before… and history will repeat itself :-(
Oh my, what are you a pessimistic lady. I’d say: ‘Let’s give them a chance. We’ll see.’
