Aww Vint, thanks for blogging this! It was a crazy experience for our small team, and we're applying for funding to continue the project — not only for hundreds of more hours of building, but also to be able to afford far better servers ;) Hopefully by the end of 2009 we'll be able not only to open this up publicly (you can obviously jump there if you're a Gridnaut or use Hypergrid to connect from any Hypergrid-enabled OpenSim grid) but to start doing all the fun stuff there — virtual tours, listening to baroque music concerts, add a plethora of information about each building ("enhanced (virtual) reality"), and so on.

But as a proof-of-concept, it was a good start!

Very interesting, I specially like the introductory techie part. For what it's worth, I've cloned 4 of my 5 "Condensation" sims from SL to OLG (you can take a look at my "SL Exodus" flickr set by clicking on my name), and, yes, the technology seems very near to be usable. With a sit script working and a simple texture changing script working, all that is needed for educators is voice. A flat model would suffice. I think that as soon as somebody can provide a reliable platform with sit, texture changing and voice, we'll see a mass exodus of educators from SL. Then SL will be a universe for sex, roleplaying and... er... government agencies? Oh well, it's not to me to question the wisdom of LL :-P

I just covered this too. It's a wonderful little video and demonstrates how exciting and potentially invaluable OpenSim could be.
