Loki, Mylena, Luna, Dalien, a stranger and I ft. Lisa Gerrard

November 15, 2007 2:11 am

As I previously mentioned briefly, a bunch of ‘us, avies’ went to see Lisa Gerrard - singer of Dead Can Dance - perform at the Koningin Elisabethzaal in Antwerp. I must say I really looked forward to this and the people joining me lived up to expectations. Even the stranger. ;)

My fellow avatars

We had a nice talk in an Irish Pub - mean people there, did not want to feed me apple pie! - about Second Life and things beyond that (amongst others, first life). What actually did help to get the talking going - I think - was that the stranger needed to be convinced that Second Life is not to be compared with ‘normal’ video games. You can use it or abuse it, as with all things in both lifes, I think. Ow, and Dalien just had to close his eyes and overexpose when I took his picture. So as for punishment, he has been replaced by a VintLabs hand drawn stick man. *sticks out her tongue*

Loki, Lisa, Mylena, Dalien and Luna

So a huge thanks to Loki Popinjay for organising this - and paying for the drinks, we should go out more often! ;) - and to Mylena Aquitaine, Luna Zolnir, Dalien Talbot and the stranger for attending. *smooches all*

Lisa ‘Fairytales’ Gerrard

And then there is the concert from Lisa Gerrard. I must admit, if it were not for the company making that kind of music more agreable to listen to, I would have probably left the concert hall. Although I appreciate Dead Can Dance music, this performance by Lisa alone was just totally and utterly boring. It sort of reminded me of a mixture between wale sounds relaxation CD’s and Helmot Lotti. Need to say more*? Yeah, I could mention that the dress she wore was butt ass ugly, white, ‘heavenly’ and shiny and made her look like a 550 year old elven which still wears white although she had numerous boyfriends which all ditched here because she was not able to show emotion. At all.

Because that was the main problem with Lisa Gerrard’s music: she can not ditch the sweet, soft even childish voice way of singing she has. She tried to do evil, yet it continued at sounding monotonously innocent. It’s not that I do not like fairy tale music, I just like my fairy tales a bit more dark!

So, if I may do a suggestion, next time we are going to listen to a real singer? And include Bella March in the company too?

Diamanda Galas

This is the singer / performance artist I associate live, female singing with: Diamanda Galas. She’s just… well… wow! So, let’s go and watch a show of her? =)

My favourite (cover) song by Diamanda Galas: I put a spell on you. (Try to find a good mastered version somewhere!)
Diamanda Galas in the 80ties: Doube barrel prayer.

Yeah, I like my fairy tales a bit more dark. ;)

* Congratz to Lisa Gerrard’s light engineer, though.

/me is Annoyed that Dalien’s picture is ommited….

Now if Vint was shooting RAW, she could fix that overexposure. And then photoshop some eyes in. lol

Kailie, I can relate to that. Although I think she’s a bit to old for me. (But she does sound like she has balls! ;))

Veyron, how much do you offer? Bidding starts at 1k linden for 100×75px one. =d

Vint: ugh. I thought I was much more expensive :-P :)) What a hit for my hyperinflated ego!! :)

Veyron: you should quite easily find my pic anywhere in SL. :)

Well Veyron, I promise you I’ll take the dreaded Nikon along next time so everyone can have their face plastered on a blog and it’s not just Mr. Rebel doing the talking ;-)

That said, it was really nice meeting everyone (again for some) and I hope we can do it again. *flocks off to check the concert agenda*

Dalien, I’m sorry, although the size of the ego is of justified size, a deserved hyperflation, please ‘hush’ or you’ll ruin my business here.

Veyron, let’s speak business: 10k Lindens for a 600×800px real-life picture, 30k if you want his head photoshopped on a naked body, 50k if you want to pick that body yourself. :D

Loki, flash wars? You’re on! (We used to do that at the goffic parties, at first I was the only one with a camera, luxury position, then the others came… as I do not like to be photographed - with one friend photographer as an exception - I just fired the flash when they took their picture. They always lost and ended up with overexposed photogaphs. :D) So my Canon Speedlite will kick your Nikon’s ass! (PS. What type of Nikon is that? I need to order the remote controller in time! ;))

Next concerts: For me this will be the BimFest probably. (As always, helping out with the merchandise stand.)

Line-up:

  • Die Krupps (Fatherlandis still one of my favourite songs. For all those who do not realise where VNV Nation got it’s inspiration.) Is this the place I used to know, as fatherland? (Which reminds me, he’s ok, besides the headaches now. =)))))))
  • Fixmer/McCarthy (better than just Fixmer which is ‘dry’ electro. Love McCarthy’s voice.)
  • Rabia Sorda (not the slightest clue who that is)
  • Insekt (they are HAWT!)
  • Martin Degville’s Sigue Sigue Sputnik (Sigue Sigue Sputnik is legendary, I’m a bit afraid he’ll ruin the remembrance of that legend, but we’ll see…)
  • Neon Elentronics (Part of the Neon Judgement, good more modern version of TV treated)
  • Psyche (see Rabia)
  • Bakterielle Infection
  • Alien Skull Plant
  • Darkmen

Best discovery there was Implant (front 242’s singer’s side project?):

Do you really think Dalien is worth that much? I mean… how about L$100 for a 8″x10″ glossy? :)
