My grade card: a lousy four (I think that translates to a ‘D’?)

April 30, 2007 11:55 am

Google is updating pagerank, and let’s see… I’ve got a ‘4′. I think that means I don’t pass, where google is concerned. :( But my grade doesn’t look all that bad, as I compare it to in my classmates. So how are the others in the class doing?

Pagerank 8 and up:

None

Pagerank 7:

  1. Official Linden Blog

Pagerank 6:

  1. 3PointD.com - The metaverse and web as blogged by Mark Wallace and friends.

  7. vintfalken.com - me ^^
  8. MechanizedLife - Machinations and Ruminations of a Second Life scripter/builder.
  9. Pixelpulse Magzine - There’s a good reason why I’m not linking this one. Call it stubornness. :d
  10. Metaversed.com
  11. KZero Blog - “Founded by Nic Mitham in 2006, K Zero specialises in branding, advertising and digital marketing consultancy.” who did himself a post on ‘great metaverse blogs’ but forgot to mention me. *sobs* :mrgreen:

When a PR update happens, it doesn’t happen all at once - Google has many ‘datacenters’, and your new PR will ‘percolate’ between those datacentres over the next few days to a week.

So does that mean my 3 equates to an F?

Yay! :p

I don’t even know what this means, but I’ll pretend that a lower number is better. We’re #3! We’re #3! (Well, I am, at least…)

LOL October I’m in the We’re #3 Club too!

Okay, I’m not afraid to ask - what the hell IS a page rank and what does it do? What are we ranked on?

@Gecko - mind if I call you Veyron II? - : I know! The awesome thing about blogs is the very easy ‘edit’ button. So, if I feel like it, I’ll update this en a few weeks - if anything still changes. A lot of the blogs in this list come from a ‘pagerank not appointed yet’, so seeing (I see pagerank and alexa rating in firefox) all of ‘us’ with a pagerank all of the sudden was just something I figured was interesting. Talking about perculating. Even if all the hot water didn’t go through the coffee filter yet, the coffee can still taste good, no? :D

@Zoe: I think most of us are on the C-list, actually. ;)

@Alidar: You’re older. :d

@October: Oh, Hush! ;) ;)

@Myg: I’m going to play Veyron III and direct you to wikipedia.org - pagerank.

Interesting.. Not that I really care about my pagerank but I didn’t even tought I had a 3 after only 1 or 2 months online for this blog. One thing that usually helps much are human readable URLs (which i dont have), website crossed linked, and page titles containing the keywords.

Watch out Vint, i’m reaching for the 4 ;) JK

Of course Vint but pagerank is part of SEO process. Doing those SEO techniques will pump up your pagerank. I actually own a website in another life which ranks 7 ^^ So I know one thing, get linked massively and your PR will go straight up =)

Personally, I just think you added my name to that list so I wouldn’t feel bad.

Which I don’t - now I feel worse. :-P

hehe Just kidding - obviously page three is where all the COOL people hang out. (Wait, I always say that about whichever group I’m in, actually…)

Hey Vint, PageRank 4 isn’t that bad, it’s a good start ! If you want to increase your PageRank, an important thing is that your site is easy to crawl by the Google bots, but even more important is that there are many incoming links to your website from sites that already have a high PageRank. PageRank is actually a number which indicates the trust Google gives to a page. Every page indexed by Google has its own PageRank.
So 4 isn’t that bad, 5 is pretty good, 6 may be possible, but 7 and higher is difficult to achieve. In the entire world there are only a few sites that have a PageRank 10 (http://www.searchenginegenie.com/pagerank-10-sites.htm).
If you want to check your PageRank in different Google datacenters I’d suggest http://livepr.raketforskning.com/, it might give you a glimpse of your future PageRank…
