My L$0.02 on voice in SLApril 16, 2007 12:06 pmMy two cents: Escort prices will double, as half of the escort will have to admit being male. And with that comes some wild guessing*: let’s assume half of the SecondLife economy has to do with sex (Xcite-stuff, clothing and skins, collars, …) and one fourth of those ‘erotic encounters’ are payed for. That’s 1/8th of the SL economy being affected! So if voice finds it way 1/16th of the SL pop will grow richer and will be even more luxury prim-equiped whilst buying houses with swimming pools as another 1/16th of the avies populating our grid will have to learn to live with cheap ugly skins, disfunctional freebie genitals and without classified ads. Ow, the terror! Group ideas: ex-female-escorts welfare group, my voice ruined my second life group, people who have sudden (deep) troath infections group, … ? *Wild guessing is just what it says: very very very wild guessing. It’s my perception of the grid. Chances are small, but I can be mistaken. :p

Or perhaps very heavy smokers?
Here’s another opinion:
Lag…lag…lag, lag….lag, lag, lag…..CRASH!
Zoe, I thought they already implemented the latter feature ages ago? :p
There’s an easy solution though; software that changes your voice.. Just go and search on google and you can have any voice you want to have.
vewwy, vewwy, wild
Alex, you think I underestimated that presence? :d
Ledlena: Has that software evolved since the late eighties spy movies and does it now give a decent, humanlike sound? Otherwise we need to start our own techno group that samples such scrambled voice conversations! ;)
Jez and I were talking about voice chat a week or so ago while we were in SL. Neither of us are for it, for the same reasons. We’re both “conversationally shy” which means when a group of people are talking, we tend to just stay quiet and listen as other people dominate the conversation. That doesn’t happen with text chat…everyone gets their say no matter how much someone may “talk”. It sort of levels the playing field.
Unfortunately, I also have a feeling it’s going to separate us between talkers and non-talkers. It’s already happened to me now where a group of people I know in SL will all be talking on Skype, and I’ll just be standing there, left out in the cold because nobody talks *and* types. =(
Also…what Zoe said. I can’t imagine that the grid can take the extra load that voice chat would surely put on it! I’d rather see overall improved performance than the ability to hear other av’s voices. But that’s just me…
