I probably postponed posting this for to long. And now Lindens did something. Pleasantly surprised? Yep, so was I. After bugging Katt Linden, Robin Linden and Jeska Linden - and getting respectively “I don’t know, but will look into it”, nothing and “Ask Katt” as answers - I was pretty much demotivated. What were the questions, you ask?

  1. Such an important issue like Openspace Price & Policy Change, did you notify all owners by email?
  2. Such an important issue like Openspace Price & Policy change, are you supplying translations for Residents who don’t fluently read & understand English?

I guess they did _something_. They have emailed now. And they have put up a short translation in Japanese of M’s final blogpost on the forum. But no translation of the knowledge base article on what Openspaces and Homesteads exactly are. And no German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Korean, Chinese, although the the Client does support those languages in Beta.

Working together with Peter Stindberg’s Babel Translations, it took us only 3 days and me only a small amount of Linden Dollars to get a full Spanish & Japanese Translation of M’s Letter to the Residents, the Knowledge Base article on Openspaces/Homesteads and my ‘How to vote on JIRA’. I would assume the team of international Lindens with their team of international Mentors could do better, if they tried. No? Or maybe, they just did no try/care hard enough? Because the fewer people understand what’s going on, the fewer people will complain and the fewer people will drop sims. And the more people will just be surprised if they get billed more and pay up?

Anyway, showing how easy it is to get up translations here, I hope next time Linden Lab changes pricing and policy or something else that important, they will spend some L$ and contact Babel Translations or their mentors to make sure they inform everybody. Idle hopes? Oh, and why doesn’t the knowledge base has a ’suggest translation’ button yet?

  1. Japanese Translation of Openspace & Homestead information.
  2. Spanish Translation of Openspace & Homestead information.
  3. Portuguese Translations of Opensace & Homestead information. (by Winter)

If you know of translations to other languages, or have created your own, let me know, and I’ll gladly add it to the link list here!

They simply don’t see it coming.

A lot of us are not individuals but companies, or we work for or represent companies. We have invested considerable amounts of time and money, and we are using SL both for business (RL and SL: for example, I work for a RL educator company) and for fun. The price increase, of course, will make us reconsider our investment in SL and look for alternatives. But this will not happen all of a sudden; this simply would not be reasonable; we need time to carefully plan our shrinkage, time to explore and ponder the alternatives, time to elaborate our farewell to our nice sims, now condemned by the Linden’s abuse. After this time will have passed, we will slowly begin to drop our sims. Not today, maybe tomorrow or after tomorrow. Many of us have 6-months or 12-months paid-in-advance sims; we can take some time in implementing an ordered shrinkage instead of a hurried disband; after all, in some cases we need to relocate our stuff to the surviving sims.

Between me and my employers we will transition from 9 sims to 3 during the following months. We have not still dropped one single sim, but we will.

They simply don’t see it coming.

i asked Chiyo Linden that Linden Lab has a plan to offer Japanese translation of their blogpost or not.

She said they have a plan, but don’t know when they can because it contains some legal problems.

Did they specify which legal issues? Really, if they are charging us our countries’ VAT, you would assume they also offer us our countries’ languages!

For me, yes I can translate these notifications into japanese, but I didn’t. Because it shouldn’t be done by residents nor Mentors. ya it should be done by LindenLab. And if translation provided, it should provided under “for refference. See English texts for your business and important dicision.” status.

But I feel I did mistake. Your demonstration show me that I’d better do something more to appeal.
