Reversed Biography
February 5, 2007 10:38 pmI hope this post can help any newborn Second Life avatar to feel a bit less bad about being broke, badly dressed, homeless and without prim and a decent skin and shape.
I’m not posting everything that happened between the time that the Linden Gods gave me life and the point in my second life where I am now, but just some facts that will give you an idea about how quickly your second life can change, if you meet some friendly persons - and most persons on SL are friendly and willing to help a newbie out.
This is me posing in my favorite dress: some Gorean silks. I’m cute, no?
And this is where public transportation in SL brings me when I press ‘home’ on the map. It’s handy to have a home in the sky: you can walk around butt naked without people assuming you’re an escort, you can rezz (drop) all kind of objects, you don’t need to get to a sandbox to do some attempts at building objects and you can have a quiet and nono-laggy conversation if the regio’s you normally hang out in are overcrowded. I’ve made the wallpaper and first floor and stairs myself, and yes, I’m still proud of that! :d
And this is a T-shirt I made a week ago, for the pyjama’s party at the club. No prim stuff, but not to bad either, no?
I’ve had my share of avatar problems, crashes and ‘not able to connect, try again in a few minutes’ allright. Even a daily prayer to the Linden Gods, can’t save you from that.
Often in SL one meets friendly persons. Don’t let a strange avatar scare you, those are often the most helping persons. This angel was my guardian angel, as he took me to the club where I now work, bought me my first prim skirt and thus decent pair of clothing and listened to my endless ranting about what I had discovered that day.
He picked me up at in the Elements, where I was very busy being very lost in the very big world of Second Life. At this point in my newborn life, I had just decided that if I couldn’t affort to buy clothes, I just might as well figure the alpha layer thing out and make my own. Back then I actually thought I looked cool.
Before that, there isn’t much documented, as I didn’t discover the Snapshot function yet (it’s under file) and didn’t think of using the old fashioned ‘print screen’, but I can remember very well travelling in SL without skin, shape and sense of directions (the mini map has the points of the compass upon then, that can help).
I only recently found out how to make a decent landing by pressing page down a few times in stead of just ’stop flying’, so one is never to old to learn basic newbie-stuff.
If you look and ask around, there are a lot of freebie clothes, freebee skins, freebie shapes, … that are fairly decent and if you set your mind to exploring and discovering - not gaining quick wealth - and are willing to listen to people, Second Life is a great place to be, also for newbies. ;)
