I like the idea of having a "throw myself on the grave" animation. Besides being appropriately dramatic (Yes, Virginia, there are those in Second Life who thrive on drama!) it would also create a rough way to measure the esteem felt for you in SL, via measuring the height of the body stack at your service. Comments like "He must have really been something, the body stack was 23 at his service" will become commonplace. A new SL career path will be created, similar to the "wedding planner" only instead of working out the seating chart, the "stack chart" will come into being, with avs arranged in the stack according to how well they knew the deceased (the higher up the stack you are, the more likely it is that you never danced with me!). The possibilities are endless.....

I could think of worse party themes :)

Actually, I read about a person who had a wake before he died. He only had a few days left to live and everyone came and gave their eulogies and visited with him in a grand party before he died. It was the most incredible idea.

They shouldn't erase you unless you ask (or are banned), it may be that all of your prims will eventually be returned, since land ownership is impermanent. And eventually, everyone who has your items in their inventory will eventually leave as well, and no one will have an active link to your creation. Kind of sad.

Reminds of me of the poem:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Héhé. Miss Tiessa, Why wait until you die to find out what people think of you? Do you suggest we all organise mock-up burials for our avies?

Ucello, Knowing that when I leave Second Life® for any reason my avatar name will eventually be erased and all the works I have in-world will show no creator, I named one of the prims in the memorial for her because object names are not changed. That I did not know? Why would they do that? Kinda takes the 'everything is possible' out of SL, if you can't even live forever because what you have created/achieved lasts... sad story.

I would be honored to give a eulogy for you (I'm tearing up right now thinking about losing you...)

I would speak of your talent, how wonderful you've always been (were?), how much you give (gave?), how fun you are (were?), and how cute you are :) [I doubt avatars decompose so 'were' wouldn't be appropriate.]

The superlatives would tumble from my lips like petals from your waning flower.

I would be choked up, crying the whole time, and I would build a small memorial to you in my palace garden. The world will be less rich with your absence but my life has been improved by knowing you.

In the end, I'd probably end up complaining about you not having sex with me :)

Why wait until you die to find out what people think of you? And I like Shockwave's animation idea - we'll definitely need a 'throw oneself on the coffin and weep' animation.

A small, vibrantly red marble urn on top of a simple pedestal or collumn, perhaps with something engraved in, a symbol or a short text... dunno what exactly.
Placed somewhere under a tree.

I don't really think a ceremony is needed, but if people want to have one, I wont stop them.

Not too long ago a person important to my in-world life passed away in the real world. Like so many before me I created a memorial in-world for her and it served to focus the grief that was felt by the community at the Isle of Lesbos. Eventually the small memorial park was expanded a bit and dedicated to all the sisters of the Isle that have passed.

Knowing that when I leave Second Life® for any reason my avatar name will eventually be erased and all the works I have in-world will show no creator, I named one of the prims in the memorial for her because object names are not changed. It will be a continuing remembrance for a special person even if few will see it or know who created it.

Well apart from jumping on the Eurostar with a shovel and the zombie juice....I have always had your ageplay comic on my wall, and would keep that to remwember you by.

I would also make a animation that throws onesself on the coffin.

And I would come as a Neko.
