I want to thank you for the 2007 post about Profoky and how crazy she is. I didn’t want to post there since it is 1.5 years old, apologies for not having a better way to contact you about it. I am a researcher and am exploring SL for some writing I am doing. She had mentioned something I was looking for in-world in her blog, so I emailed her and she wrote back in a normal, lucid and polite manner. I thought I could learn some more about SL and keep the conversation going. I criticized American Apparel for mimicking real life when they closed their store (I felt they could have done something more creative), and then the wheels came off and Catherine’s madness revealed itself.
I was a “geek”, she was “giving me pushback” (I do not know what that is), she is “fighting a culture war”, and she has met “thousands of people like me.” Apparently I want to control Second Life, and she won’t let that happen. Since I used to be a professor, she thought I… well, sorry to go on, she’s insane!!!! (”at your college with its aging Marxists…”)
She went on for about 4 pages.
I tried to reason (which you warn against, wisely), thinking of how she was clear the first time. I got back another 4 pages which I didn’t bother to read. She is clearly insane in some way (I am not a psychologist, but her lucid to nuts could be bi-polar, although she could be borderline personality disorder as well).
So, I really wanted to thank you a lot for that post. She is a mean, crazy person. (She reminds me a lot of a bi-polar neighbor I used to have before the landlord kicked her out.) Your post, and all the positive responses, made me feel better.
thanks!
-Nat Poor.
