I must say that I did not know that. Actually I don't think I know much from him, besides the war poem and the 'goodmorning...' thingie. /me prefers Paul Snoek. ;)

When I hear these arguments of anti-SL-ists, they claim many times that compared to SL users, they DO have a social life.

Many times this "social life" refers to the fact that they go to "real" bars, discotheques etc.. and that they make love to "real" people...
I am pretty sure most SL'rs do these things too..
But mostly, these kind of descriptions of social life remind me of the poem "Bar" by flemish dadaist/expresionist poet Paul Van Ostaijen...

http://users.pandora.be/gaston.d.haese/bar.html

(or.. for the non-dutch speaking amongst us:)

                          BAR

The bar is empty

                                   and filled up with people

(sometimes mistakenly cited as : "the bar is full, with empty people" ... but saying pretty much the same thing..)

Gwyn, getting into that discussion is losing of time and nerves without any reason. It is worse than talking with that yellow-haired guy with monocle.

I saw that forum thread and I got this violent urge to knock some heads around :)

Seriously... "photography is an art form that requires light photons" is ludicrous. The last time I checked, a CRT or a LCD also emit photons.

Not to mention that people tended to say the usual things about "getting a life" etc. which frankly start to become very boring. It's amazing how the 21st century has people sitting in front of computers, using the Internet, using a picture of a plastic soldier as their avatar, and have the nerve to post things like "Second Life users should not post pictures on Flickr and are a sad crowd". For Christ's sake! If these people had been hired by Torquemada, we'd be all burning on a bonfire!

The average IQ of the poster on that thread was about 100 divided by the number of posters. Sincerely, I'm truly shocked. People are more closed-minded these days than during the Dark Ages. I guess I'm worried. Many of the people posting there might become future politicians and rule the world I happen to live in.

Luckily, commenting on that thread required joining a group (one that I now have all the reason to despise!) so that made me refrain my flaming mood :)

I'm with you in this, Vint. I'm not my avatar, but my avatar is me. Is the expression of me i want to share with other "residents". Anyway, i'm still not sure to call SL a game, we are not playing in the sense there is no an objective. We are just expressing ourselves, so i prefer to call is a platform.

And for that comments in Flickr, well, some people need to get a life, first of second, and critizise is cheap and empty when you don't try to understand and respect.

I do not believe 'I am my avatar'. But I am Vint Falken. Just as I'm a different Ann when going to work then I am when hanging out with my friends. And an even more different when meeting my parents, ... etc. If we are dropped in different surroundings, our personalities change as to match that surrounding. Just for kicks, this one is not called Ann. =)

What's SL more or less then just another game? Although First Life Law is a bit more extended and the First life community guidelines are even more hypocrite and confusing as the Second Life ones and there are some basic differences like feeling pain, hunger, ... ?

Thank you for your concern, but me and my human are doing fine. If we have any issues that need counselling, rest assure that those issues are not Second Life related. =)
