Strange SLast Names
And have you ever seen avies with the following strange Second Life last names? MLCAU, SkyNews, TM, Onassis, Lichtenstein, Folds? Or Google, GeekSquad, MadeVirtual, Xerox, Azure, Ware, Replay and Suicide. I’ll take a ‘Vint TM‘, a ‘Tupper Ware‘ and a ‘Coast Azure‘ alt, please? ;)
Original Second Life Name Combinations
Often I admire the creativity in the avatar’s name choice. Ever heard of for instance of Mr. Miss Coke Supply? I often meet avatars which I think of ‘now that’s a great name combination’. Sadly I must admit, I quickly forget those names again, it seems. :/ I assume there are others ‘tremendiously fun, original, …’ avatar names in Second Life. What’s the best avatar (name) you have ever met?
Gimme Lockjaw (by October Hush)
Want to see more Top 50 Avatar Statistics? Check out Obijan Technologies Statistics Page. The regions recently added is a fun one too. Upcoming - or recently adjusted - Second Life regions are for instance: Second Poland (Mature, created 2008-02-29, located 1065,1092), FIAT LATINO AMERICA (Mature, created 2008-02-27, located 958,909) and Egypt Nile Valley (Mature, created 2008-02-26, located 712,976).
Ow, and 78% of all regions in Second Life are ‘mature’. ;)

I find it incredible that essentially all ten names are male names. SL seems to be overrun with female AVs.
I think the most amusing name I’ve come across so far is Gimme Lockjaw =)
Glad to hear that you like the stats. Let me know if you are interested in any others, and I will see what I can do.
BTW: Tof om eens een andere Belg tegen te komen! :)
Josh, yes, but could it be that we females are more creative as it comes to picking names? That we think about it more, where a guy just types in the first thing that comes to mind? (Thus Aaron, Charles or Pablo?)
In my friendlist I have for instance two Loki’s, two Rob’s, two Dan’s, … . But a far as I know, I do not have any girl ‘double’.
Tobie, that’s indeed a good one!
Statistiek was nooit zo mijn ding.
Een Belg… krijg nu wat… een échte Belg… . ;)
Well, you have my name for example :) . Oddly enough I’ve heard about another GoSpeed and they better stay clear of my path. The poser!!!
@GoSpeed:
Maybe I ought to run a new static : “Name originality Quota” or the likes. Would be interesting to see. Wouldn’t be able to cross reference it to gender, because there is no way to determine that in SL programmatically (and in some cases, not even when looking directly at them, but that is another subject)
@Vint:
You might be onto something there.
En je was juist: Ik ben Belg, maar leef op een boogscheut van Lindenlabs.
Laat de ideeen maar komen. Best is via email als je een snelle reply wil.
According to ObiJan’s stats there are two other Vint’s:
Vint Falken 2006-11-10
Vint Kohime 2007-06-26
Vint Seesaw 2007-08-19
But I’m the oldest! :d
Ow, and the Falken family exist of 345 avatars. We’re a small one. :/
@ObiJan: I need to think some more on it. But I’ll drop you an email when thinking is done! ;)
nice article, just as a note Coke Supply is a girl!! she is part of the Oni Kenkon building team on Second Life and OpenSIM! :D I cant wait to show her this article!
lmao ;)
@ Vint: Yeah, there’s actually not very many avs around with the surname of Hush. And there’s not many avs named October (I think when I checked, there was maybe 20-25 at the time). Despite that, I ended up meeting another October! Remember that? =)
I think the coolest name in my family is “Hush Hush” ;-D
With standing guard and hosting events at the Isle of Lesbos as much as I do it occurred to me a few months ago to start collecting cool names. Here is what I have so far:

Must be careful with name, though. I am reminded weekly how poor the Google translator is. I thought “Uccello” was Italian for “bird.” Apparently not, in some places. Not a good name for a lesbian.
At least there’s only one Veyron Supercharge…. :)
Veyron, yes, but 17 others with first name “Veyron” and 241 others with last name “Supercharge”. And I thought my family was a small one. :d
Nebadon (and of course, Miss Coke!) I’m very sorry. I should have checked more thoroughly. Corrected it in the blogpost.
And yes, Tobie, I remember. Don’t recall what we did though. Where we friendly, or did we threaten her to leave the grid at once? :D The stats say there are another 84 ‘Octobers’, so if we are to scare them away, that will be a lot of work! ;)
Uccello, best out of the list - imho - Tender Littlething and Good Chemistry. What else is ‘Uccello’ but a painter and a type of bird? The only - real - Italian last name referencing to a bird I know of is Paparello - little duckie. :d
@ Vint: Actually, it was a guy! =) And I was friendly with him.
84 Octobers, huh? Not too bad. Still uncommon enough for me =)
Are these active users or new users? Because according to SLnamewatch.com, the top ten numbers are higher:

Aeon 78702
Writer 70205
Voom 68142
Aabye 66862

Dunt Botha
Jess Duettmann
Scented Dix
Bau Rau

Amazing what names get around ToS, too. I was an Eph Yue the other day.

:)
P2
My name doesnt mean anything special, its just in your head
It appears that these stats are based off of the w-hat database http://w-hat.com/name2key
The stats are listed there on the right in the useless stats section.
I have a friend who wanted to become Vodka Lemmon, but it was taken…
Thankfully unlike most games I think I’m safely the only ‘theshadow’ in SL… Though apparently everyone wanted to be an ‘Oh’… >_>
@Deric:
Yes, we use raw data from w-hat, but also from other sources including our own collection system. Compare the total AV’s numbers.
Some of my friends have names I think are creative.
My neighbours, for example, are Rage and Pain Looming.
And a good friend, Hyde Carver.
