SL2MV - Moving from Second Life to Multiverse
February 20, 2008 10:14 pmIt’s not that I want to encourage anybody to do so - although having two virtual worlds can do no harm? - but this is one of the things that are ‘way beyond my cup of tea but highly fascinating to watch’. I suggest you IM Mike Sutton’s avie Lightninboy Snook with any questions. =p
What does SL2MV - short for Second Life to Multiverse Content Pipeline - do?
- Set of integrated programs to take static 3D Models from Second Life to Multiverse
- Creates DAE Model that can be imported into most 3D Modeling tools (3D Max, Maya, Blender)
- Creates OGRE 3D Mesh and Material Files for Multiverse
- Creates Texture Files
- Imports mesh, materials and textures into Multiverse World listed in Repository
And what do you need?
- Linden llScript
- DOS Batch Files
- GL Intercept by Damian Trebilco
- Modified Open GL Extractor (OGLE) by Eyebeam OpenLab
- 2 Python scripts using the Blender API
- 4 AUtoHotkey Keyboard Macros
- Multiverse Conversion Tool
- Multivese Asset Importer
And just from Second Life to Blender:

I am not sure I understand every word but it sounds like something I want to poke to see how it reacts and if we can play together. So does that thing have a linux version?
Am I right in assuming that since it uses GL Intercept it works on ALL objects regardless of ownership/permissions ?
This is really, really nice. I’d been playing with the idea but had no time to do anything at all. I’m pleased that someone did it. :-)
Dandellion, it says Mac, Linux, and other platforms are on the roadmap. Take a look at multiverse.net yourself?
Loki, not sure. I told you to not bug me with the questions! It could be that silly me is wrong, but GL intercept just does textures, no?
And Nobody, next up, monopoly in Multiverse? ;)
will do… as soon as human let me have a bit of my own time :( …..
You’re right. GL Intercept just does textures afaik.
Thanks for confirming that, Taran. And Dandellion, yes indeed! You need to ditch the human and find a few seconds to talk to me in-world! ;)
Hehe. I just caught the ‘Monopoly in Multiverse’ comment. I know for a fact that at least one of the Exchanges is looking at other implementations of synthetic worlds and connecting them fiscally. So, ‘monopoly’? :-)
I’m actually looking forward to the new slew of competition coming out. It does seem to have made Linden Lab bring their game up a bit. Mitch Kapor can only talk so much, you know… (and everyone talks about his successes… but when was the last one?)
First at all, sorry my bad english. My first language is spanish. I tried GLintercept to move textures than I buied fron SL to mi sim in OpenSim. I think than if I build or buied something, I am on my rights to move it to an other metaverse.
The experiments with the .obj files are more complex. At the moment only get a big box with near 90m by side and in the middle is mi poor avie like an small toy. But with more practice, perhaps in the future, I can get move my objects, builded o buied from SL to OS.
Why would you move content from Second Life to multiverse? Can’t you just create what you need in multiverse?
Why recreate what you already created, Taliesin? Some people have created a lot of content.
