or if LL is trying to show how much power they have to control SL when deeply they really can’t control it (in the full meaning of the word)

Now that, Naima, is an interesting questions. If indeed they are trying to control they can moderate what type of content is published in our Beloved Brave New Virtual World, this is a - rather pathetic - attempt?

Hi Vint,

I'm following with attention this issue and some LL actions and in my special opinion I do understand that LL has their concerns created a rule (without think in other communities) but really they forget the "basic", and in this case basic thought is that SLB5 it's a hole celebration on the Grid. I'm thinking if the SLB6 will be only for LL employers lmao.

I really agree with their worries about the child AV (first time a saw any news about http://news.cnet.com/5208-1043-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=15433&messageID=130097&start=-184), and all problematic questions that pop up with this behavior and some positive actions take after that, of course I can't agree with child Av's and sex related mix with other conservative meanings, but the real truth about the grid is that some adult AV could be actually a kid behind the screen and this kid can live an entire 2nd life with no big limitations (its a challenger to control it).

But the real question on this date (SLB5) will be such a challenger to join all the community or if LL is trying to show how much power they have to control SL when deeply they really can't control it (in the full meaning of the word). Because mature content and child AV can not be together but they could celebrate such an important date since they are truly the residents like us, so what is the real meaning of the SLB5 this year? I think I missed something during last LL actions (I'm not against them, but I really don't understand completely what they are doing).

Oppression is not the answer . Makes any sense some celebrate and others that belong to the big family are banned from the family party?

i've commented on venk's stream and sue's stream but i'd like to copy those comments onto here because i think they raise interesting questions especially since cole states that LL is trying to protect itself

i fail to see how showing families engaging in normal family activities that people do in real life every day could be concidered something to ban from a celebration of our world...

in my opinion, instead of banning them, sl should allow them the ability to show that it's not some underground freak show but instead a normal and wonderful roleplay that can be theraputic for everyone involved. by trying to keep it hidden or underwraps, they give it the appearance that something dirty or bad is going on when nothing actually is. these exibits can even give the other citizens of second life the chance to understand the lives of people in these families and perhaps open their mind a little...

LL is not protecting themselves, they are making fools of themselves...

what i really think is odd is the fact that they think they need to protect themselves from the rl press seeing images of adult avatars in even close proximity to child avatars when any rl press agent can just as easily look at flickr and see those exact photos, or even if one went to an alternative sl5b location and saw photos like what venk is presenting.

and seriously what respeciable journalist is going to see a mom and dad sitting with their child or doing something family friendly as something offensive?? and if they do see that as offensive they should probably be seeking a mental health assessment.

what it really looks like is a way to enforce the original rule of no child avatar exibits by making the stipulations completely rediculous...

ColeMarie, isn't _that_ why they hire a PR agency? Maybe, they can think pro-active, and even build something themselves that tells a bit more about all avie kinds in SL, thus also the child avies? That way they can even refer to games such as Zelda where it is totally normal that an adult plays with an underage avatar?

May I point out all it takes is a magazine taking pictures of stephens exhibit and writing up a twisted article that takes it out of context and then you have a mess linden labs isn't willing to take on.
I don't blame them.
Sorry.
