Update: SLangLife CEO Macciej Schumann responded with a forum post called 'Privacy Policy'. So in the end, something goods comes out of this: 'In order to make the operation on your data trustworthy, we are currently working on a privacy policy.'

I taught computer science up to 10 years. Every year, every class, every stud I said: do it, don’t touch it, click that, don’t push “delete”, use this or that, here you are 3 field To-Cc-Bcc, in this page you can read more about netiquette … This discus looks like ghosts’ revenge; lol
And one more nugget: Humans are lazy :)

Lol, i'm a LITTLE late (mobile browser reached "Oops! Page not found" after about 10-15 mins of in-class click-typing), but here's my comment:

F***! I'm unsubscribing and resubscribing with my "business" email alias. (Smiley@DuoGrid.com and Admin@DuoGrid.com) This is very wrong, I don't have an average name so it's kinda risky for me to find out some idiot mailing everybody put my email address, which contained my name, along with 80+ recipients in the "To:" field. Y'know, someone could sue them for doing this. >.>

ok, I am also guilty of not having PP on my blog too. But, you'll agree, it is somewhat different. And that is beside the point here.

Point is that computers are made to free humans from boring and repetitive work. Now, you can imagine Katty copy/pasting all those e-mail addresses. But human is creative. Human will not think about hiring a student or SL fellow to make five lines script to extract those addresses and send e-mails on a press of a button, just like computers do :) I bet that script wouldn't cost more than 2000L$.

Zigi, we do not have such a saying in Dutch. We do have the one 'speaking is silver, keeping silent is gold'. I don't like it! ;)

Did we say you are amateurs? Hmmm. I'm sorry, but this was - regardless it's good intentions - a major error. Yes, a good trick was found to lessen the burden of work, but two more second of thinking would have put that lot of e-mail addresses in the BCC field. Katty must have also gotten my rather furious e-mail, but never replied.

I must admit I am curious about SLang Life, and have thus subscribed to receiving a copy in my mailbox. Until I have that in my paws, I'll base my judgement on the cover lay-out, contents and this privacy error.

I don't know, I do not know any spammers personally. As I gave up creating a separate e-mail address for each and every service I use - the benefits of having your own domain - long time ago, I do not know where the spam I get comes from. I can only hope there will not be more now.

As for the privacy statement / agreement, I think from the moment you gather people's RL addresses you should have one a bit more elaborate than 'I hereby give consent for my personal data to be inserted into database and processed now and in the future by the owner of SL’ang Life Magazine. => ‘Yes’', which says what you may do, but not what you WILL NOT do with the data. A nice draft can be found here. I do admit being guilty of not having one myself, although I do keep IP's and e-mailaddresses linked to avie names in my Db's. I do realise I should work on that, and shall do so.

You're Avatars too, aren't you? Why don't tie Katty up to one of those SL BDSM poles and punish her? Ow, do add some prim donkey ears! I think that will make amends way better then any official apology could, and at least, it's Second Life style. ;)

„Better” is the an enemy of „good” – it is says in my country. SL’ang Life will be printed this night. On Monday it will be dispatch to all of the subscribers which confirmed their registration.
Personally I receive a lot of mails, and not always I click some confirmations. That is why I had an idea to send reminders to all of the people who registered on our page and probably wait for the first number of SL’ang Life, but because of some reasons (maybe server did not work for a while, or the connection was bad…) did not confirmed themselves as a subscribers.
We do not have any tools that enable us to send e-mails to all from our base at the same time...they are useless for us.
I said: “Katty, write and send a reminder to each of over 100 subscribers”. As long as I sat nearby, the e-mails were sending one by one. But a human is creative. And he realized: I will copy all of them and send at once. And it went out…
I have been reading your posts and I wouldn’t like to be in Katty’s skin. You can call us amateurs. Do you want to know the real story of SL’ang Life? Just read my commentary in the first issue. Unusually, we will palce it on our page.
And one more thing to add… You are writing about your doubts that your personal data will be sold or that we will be sending spam to you. Do you know, apart from me of course, any spammer that sets the subscriber on his page, and just next to it adds his name, surname and address (there are my RL data find me at google.com)?
I do apologize. CEO Macciej has already started writing an official apology for our website.

Mary, yes, I even _hope_ this was an accident. Yet that does not excuse the capital stupidity they've pulled here, now does it? Nor does it change the thingie that should pass as a privacy policy and the lack of a real one.

Which reminds me. Actually, I accept e-mail addresses, should I have such a policy too? I should have a fine number in my Db - somewhere - by now...
