SLelections: Candidates come and candidates go

June 8, 2007 1:09 am

Rej_CandidateThe first SLpolitical news of the day is a very sad one: Tiana Meriman shall no longer represent the PATH party in this SLelectional race. Her official statement is that she just pities Robin to much finds the current Linden administration did make the right decisions and that she has high hopes for Second Life’s future should that same Linden administration be given a Second Term. The rumor does go she was advise upon dropping out of the SLG07 elections before the other candidates got word about her offering space needles to the press.

The second candidate that - literally - disappeared this close to the SLelection day is Zoe Connolly who was last seen blogging about a suspicious looking white van and not being able to escape-TP. Both foe’s and friends express their concern for Zoe Connolly’s meta-life and their hopes for a safe return. Let’s all pray to the Linden Gods. Maybe for once this will help. Although they tend to stop listening after 100 prayers.

What Myg is to Wei shall Ferguson be to Erbo: Erbo Evans appointed Danielle Ferguson as campaign managar. We at the Grid Democracy’s campaign office hope that she knows what she’s doing by accepting this. Remember lady: why did you un-partner in the first place?

// Grid Democracy message

The Grid Democracy party announces that she would welcome all donations made in L$ to help it’s candidate Vint Falken to extend her SLelectional wardrobe. A future governor can’t be dressed in silks can she? That and she urgently needs a briefcase to sort all the other candidate’s platforms in. Support Grid Democracy! Vote Vint! (Of course the Grid Party will thank you in ‘appropriate matter’ for those donations as soon as Vint Falken has become Governor of SL.)

// end Grid Democracy public message

I finally received Miss Bade’s campaign platform and I must say her ideas make the SLfuture look even more bright. I can’t help but quote her on those very ambitous plans:

And last, I’ll be working with our corporate partners to ensure we have a steady source of revenue without having to raise taxes on residents. I’ll do this by auctioning off the naming rights to mainland sims. Should that not generate enough revenue, we’ll look at naming rights to islands as well.

I foresee great days ahead for SL, and can’t wait to move into the new Kraft Foods SL Governors Mansion on lovely Halliburton sim.

Talking about ambition, Tiessa Montgolfier, known BDSM mistress and running as an independent candidate, says to us it’s Governor Phil’s ambition ‘bringing all ruin’. Supprisingly she isn’t running with the ‘Free blowjobs’ slogan that all expected her to use, but has worked out a very well written campaign speech. Lend her your IM’s!

Need voting advice? Go and read Dalien Talbot’s voting advice. First he gave prim skirt making abilities to the masses, now he gives us a good overviewer of the qualities an SLgovernor must have.

meratalk.comThe Grid Party is also wondering what Dolmere Talamasca is trying to achieve with this carefully inserted message in his own position paper:

You see… Erbo knows I have those pictures - the ones where he’s enjoying his REAL position papers, you savvi? I’m creating my Flikrrr account now just in case he sends his goons over to get them back.

We wouldn’t be supprised if he ends up suffering from sudden ‘inventory loss’ when asked to show what he’s got, yet we also are rather curious after the contents of the blackmail_erbo snapshot folder.

Furthermore I sugest Tateru Nino with her ‘anarchy’ approach on (not) governing SL and Rejeanne Cannoli who claims she shall make no difference to team up as running mates.

‘No difference’ brings me to the disclaimer: This is not a real election. As Phil wasn’t democratically elected governor in first place. We life in a dictorate. Forced to accept the ToS or to not live at all. So the SLelections are a parody. A way to think about the possibilities that lay ahead of us and our grid. Linden Labs is in no way involved in this SLelection and up to now no Lindens are running for the position of ‘Governor of SL’.

as ex-candidate of the PATH party i only wish to say that i do pity Robin because it must not be easy to deal with people like candidate Vint falken who is running a dirty campaign by finding the dirt on the other candidates and who is twisting their words. this candidate obviously thinks she can win with pety tactics! she is an agent of the devil!

futhermore i did not say i agree with everything LL did. i think theres a lot of things to be done still but i wish to give them a chance and see what they will do.

Disclaimer: this is satire blah blah blah, i actually found that part about me very funny and the space needle thing was really quick thinking ^^

Tiessa, I love the Lindens too don’t be mistaken. but neglecting your user base to the point even hardcore supporters are pissed off, keeping introducing non-essential features (like voice) and neglecting the severe bugs that renders the grid useless nowdays, and taking a very very bad PR approach that lead SL’s own community against itself into a spiral of paranoiac witchhunt, you must admit Tiessa those are all very bad corporate moves.

Don’t forget the Lindens invented it, but it’s OUR world, it’s driven by us, the economy is fed with our tiers fees, we create the content, we create the places of interest, attracting other companies to this huge user base. We are the wooooorld… (sings cheezily).

As a computer programmer and system administrator and owner of a web hosting company, I know damn well that kind of things they have to deal with. But or you deal like you should, or not. SL is a web hosting farm, nothing more. If they start treating it like a game, then they expose themselves to lawsuits. Am I responsible for what one smuck of a customer puts on its website? The answer is no. So LL is not responsible if you buy a sim and plant child porn on it for example. But it is NOT the Lindens job and it is NOT the community’s job to police those criminal behaviour! Let the cops do their jobs.

Neither the community or the Lindens needs to become the police in this issue. They just have a PR departement that did’nt think enough about those issues to deal with it properly to my own sense. Therefore they just stumbled in the carpet, made broad statements about offensive contents, furthermore infuriating an already sensitive user base, rising their own user base into a grieving fest. This is called shooting themselves in the foot. In PR you have to keep your head cold, and defend your user base, while offering authorities your collaboration in case of complain. That’s it! Does’t take a MBA to know that.

Sorry for the long rant, hope i’m making sense

well first of all i think you ment tiana and not tiessa since she didnt comment on this thread.

second of all, the things you are ranting about are in my blog so i dont know why you didnt just post it there.

third, i agree with you that linden lab should never have gotten involved in the age-play afair and just let the police do their job and cooperate like the internet does but it’s too late now. they did the mistake and now they have to deal with it.

for the rest of the stuff you are ranting about, i always said on my post what my opinion was. i’m not gonna repeat it again.

Codie: thumbs up, totally agree.

On a side note, given the current state of the affairs, I’ve been suggesting to improve the world by prohibiting the XOR operation in any computer as an example of the terrorist boolean operation ( 1 (something - target) XOR 1 (something - attacker) == 0 (nothing, empty), and replace it with a much more peaceful combination with equivalent functionality [A XOR B => (A & ~B) + (~A & B) ] - however this idea so far did not get much of the mindshare…

So far unfortunately the narrow-minded performance circles have been winning and I’ve not been very successful with that proposal, but I still have hope - maybe we could do something together on that ?

did i say tiessa? DOH! my bad, must be too tired.

well just pile up that rant then, if it confirms that well what your thinking, i think we are not alone. we are just the noisy minority.

yes i agree they must deal with it, but not on the community’s back. and I read all your stuff, I know what your opinion is. i just dont agree on taking pity, there a corporation making huge profits, if they cannot PR, this is bad news for us, content creators, that invested thousands of dollars (in my case) in this metaverse.

cheers!

Danielle’s and my unpartnering has been amply documented as to the reasons, and there is no animus between us as a result. She and I remain business partners in Bogart Land Management, managers of the Gin Rummy nightclub and of Wilder Mall, and we’re still as thick as thieves. (I have received reports, though, that she may be trying to negotiate a deal with the Talamasca camp…this bears watching.)

i wasnt really pitying robin, that was satire, you know part of the election thing… i guess i should have put that in the disclaimer too XD my bad. i just feel bad for the employees who have to deal with people repeating the same question over and over again rather then shut up and listen and after reading what robin had to say i have a better understanding about whats going on, so i’m not panicking as much as initially was.

and yeah they do have a bad PR but being a long time fan of MMOs it’s not the first time i see things like this happen, so i guess i’m just unphased about it all and know it’s going to blow over pretty quickly, just to be replaced by the next big drama thing.
