Will a Linden please…

June 10, 2008 12:03 am

Wtf? Please tell me why? I'm not banned, am I?Hmm. Well at least I’m blogging again. I have no other option. The Grid is down. as usual Just like saturday during our Gardenstock Festival. Rolling restart, but they forgot the restart part of it. On a saturday! Back then I was swearing ‘could you please do this on a weekday’. But now I want downtime on weekends again. Anyway, it was a sad thing, because the T61 performers were really awesome. But both Mike00 and BabbleGrabble hold up well. They deserve a few extra bumps for that! ;) But anyway. Will a Linden please tell me _why_ I can’t get in. They used to do that in the old days, before the Second Life Birthday Event became PG. Yeah… those old days. Pffff. :p

*end rant*

PS. I actually checked my email. No message about ‘you were banned for X offence’. So I guess this is a lock all out? Strangely enough, the peepz I have on Skype are still in-world. Me wants in too! Me wants in too! Pfff.

Update: I’m in. Yeey! But I’m wearing my UI in stead of clothing. :/ ‘Deferrers’ (new trendy Linden word) rest of the blog updates to tomorrow. The official message - after a while of waiting and uncertainty - was: ‘Due to high demand, logins are currently deferred. Kindly try again in a few minutes.’ I guess that beats the ‘please be patient’ from Saturday when I was far from patient. Btw, high demand? 51,563 online now is not that much. It’s only 1/200th of belgian population! And do you know how small Belgium is?!!

Actually, be it a good thing or bad, you’re probably in the same boat as me. Try again to log in and it’ll work. I have this message pop up so many times, but the Grid is certainly not down tonight. Same goes for those pointess ‘region is logging you out’ messages. Two more tries and I’m in again, no matter what time the message tells me I may be granted entry.

Vidal, it was not down, but they did close logins: ‘Due to high demand, logins are currently deferred. Kindly try again in a few minutes’ came up after a while.

First thing I do is checking status, if there is nothing there I either a) keep trying when important b) go eat an icecream. =d

I like last one, “Because we can!” :)

Yeah, I posted that same error notice on my blog - except the high demand didn’t seem all too accurate - after all, it wasn’t like there was more than the usual 50k people trying to get in… Although I had not seen that particular message before, maybe that’s what they were testing? Took me five attempts to connect. I checked my email to see if I had been banned, too. ;-)

I suspect a few thousand people logging in at the same time would cause a lot of pressure on the asset servers.

Logins would have to connect you with your inventory.
Move you to your last location.
Put your clothes/attachments/bling on you.
Then rez you and your surroundings together,
and make your inventory appear.

Far from simple

Shockwave, they are only rezzing half our inventory anyway? *taps her foot on her broken bed* So it can’t be _that_ heavy? ;)

Wrath, yeey! First I meet you in-world (well, in-IM) and now here! oh my god!) But indeed, 50k concurrency did not seem like much (or to much), yet the same happened tonight. But this time I was already in-world, so I just had to be carefull not to crash! ;)

Nock, the ‘because I can’ is a sentence/statement I picked up at Least I Could Do - or licd. It is a signature from Ryan Sohmer - be it the real, fictional or semi-fictional, and also the title of their third year collection book. I love the comic, and I must admit, that ‘because I can’ sentence really sticks on you. And maybe it’s not that bad a ‘motto’ for life. Why did you do that? Because I can! ;)

(Although I like ‘I have my moments’ and ‘my will be done’ too. :d)
