I am trying to buy a new laptop without paying over $800, but I need a laptop with a good enough graphic card for windlight to work. Does anyone know what the cheapest brand is that has the graphic card to handle windlight?

Adrian, glad to read this was solved. Although having to downgrade to get something to work is never a nice thing. (Except if it's downgrading on amount of clothing, but that's a whole different thing. Nvm... :p)

Care to join which graphics card that was and which driver you downgraded to? It might be interesting for people who have the same problem, that they might stumble over a solution without having to do the trial and error stuff! ;-)

Thanks Vint, I got it worked out at LAST!
I uninstalled my current driver, then downloaded and installed a previous driver.
THAT did the trick. :)

Hi, Adrian. I'm not good at roleplaying helpdesk/error detective, but i'll give it a try:

1.) Did you install any updates of the client lately just before reflections stopped functioning? If so, did you check in the new client if everything that needs to be checked to show reflections is still checked? 'Render reflections' and then all under type?
2.) Did you play with your 'advanced water' settings? For the fun of it, save your settings, see if you have some older ones saved, and if this not work, put all your sliders exactly in the middle. Also check if water color texture is kinda blue, and there is a right texture.
3.) Check your client menu (ctrl+alt+d) and see if everything there that needs to be put on rendering is there. If needed, compare with a befriended avatar that is online.
4.) Did any major stuff occure inbetween ripples and reflections working and not working? Client update install, graphic drivers updated, graphic driver's settings changed, ... ? Or do you reckon this just happened, overnight, 'out of the blue'?

I am no longer getting ripples and or reflections in WindLight.
I went out and get a new Graphics card but that didn't work at all.
I need a little help here.

Yes Vint you did!

The hard and dumb bit about this (to me anyway) is that this slider is NOT in (or reachable via) any of the "graphics" settings areas in "Preferences"! It's underneath where you go to change the Sun!

I think the WL team really must do two things urgently:

- add a link to the (Ctrl+Alt+E) Environment Editor to the "Graphics" tab, and

- reset the default for the slider down to somewhere between 0.7 and 1.5

Thank you for sharing this, Faerie! Glad to hear your problems are now solved. =)

(But I did tell you to fiddle with the settings a bit, didn't I? <- Just so I don't feel completely useless. ;))))

I found a video blog that Torley Linden posted in using Windlight:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctp1Uh-D034&feature=related

and in it he tells you how to change the darkness of underwater in Windlight!

Press CTRL + ALT + E to open the "environment editor" and there is a slider for "water fog"

the default is far too high.

Setting it to zero gives you crytal clear water, but between 0.7 and 1.5 gives a good balance.

Update on the underwater visibility problem. Caliburn Susanto posted a workaround on his blog here:

http://caliburnsusanto.livejournal.com/28057.html?view=74649#t74649

The work around is to press Control+Alt+F6 to turn off the "Fog" effect and make the water crystal clear!

He's posted before and after photos as well.

It's not perfect but it's definitley something I can live with!
